Mistakenly given overseas fee status, can I still accept my offer?

Hi all,

I have gotten an offer today to study MSc Computing (AI and ML) at Imperial but they have given me a fee status as Overseas.

I am a British Citizen and have been living in this country for over 20 years so I am sure that I should be paying home fees, I am paying home fees for my undergraduate.

I've already sent a Fee status questionnaire to the admissions team, but they've gone on easter break for a week and I am slightly worried they wont get back to me in time before I need to accept the offer.

My question is can the fee status change after I accept my offer? If anyone has had any experience with this I would love to hear your thoughts.

Hi, you need to call Imperial College and ensure that being rectified before you accept the offer. The offer is made based on your paying overseas fee. After Easter public holiday, that is on Tuesday, call them up, despite you may be route to different persons, insist on getting your case raised. BTW, deadline for acceptance is 5th May (if you got all five offers' confirmation; if not, deadline is even longer), so not too worry.

Unless you are putting down a deposit, then accepting doesn’t really commit you to anything. They can amend the fee status later depending on the outcome of the review.

if you are still concerned you can always contact their general admissions team and they’ll often give an extension until the fee review is complete.

It’s a one year Masters course, not one applied to via UCAS so that date doesn’t apply.

I believe I will have to put down a deposit of 10% of the tuition fee within 28 days of accepting. I’ve read that it’s not possible to change fee status once I’ve enrolled and started the course and I think enrolling is different from accepting the offer and putting down the deposit. I’m planning on calling the admissions team as soon as Easter break is over for them, which should be Thursday 9th April according to their website.

On the fee status questionnaire, it says that offers are made solely on merit and I assume that means that my fee status is independent from my offer.

Yes, enrolment is distinct from accepting your offer. Enrolling is often the point where your fee status is locked in.
