this is just hypothetical (there's no way i'd actually beother to do it).... i'm at dundee and for the 1st 2 years we have to do 3 subjects each semester (that can lead to 2 different degree paths), so my 2 degree paths are maths and psychology (which at the mo i'm plannign on doign a joint honours in). I know i'd be able to just do psychology in 3rd + 4th years (so get an MA in psychology), but would i then be able to come back and do 3rd and 4th years in maths , so get my MA in maths as well?

In theory I would have thought so, but Maths is one of those subjects you can't really take 2 years out from plus there would be funding issues involved I guess.

I doubt it would be possible to rejoin the maths modules after having completed the degree the first time around.

So what is your actual degree title? BSc Psychology and Maths or MA Psych?

Can you choose to specialise in maths in your 3/4 years regardless of the fact the degree in a joint honours in psychology, and still come out with a MA Maths? I didn't even think a MA in maths existed outside oxbridge.

it's MA maths and psychology... i was just asking hypothetically. There was no reason i put down psychology as the first degree, parctically i aree that matsh would be the better choice first.

yep. because all my extra modules in 1st/2nd year have been from within the arts and social science faculty. so they wouldn't give me a BSc

Are you sure you're not speaking hypothetically just to be awkward? Surely your tutors are the best people to ask about this one

no really i am... there is no way i'd do single honours maths or spend an extra 2 years as a student here... it just popped into my head when i was wandering to uni the other day (it's a boring walk)

But you'd come out with a degree purely in maths  Nobody wants one of those, they're so last decade
