A Day in the Life on an Engineering Student at UofG

Hi everyone,

I'm a 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering student at UofG, and here's a little insight into what a typical (but busy) day looks like for me mid-semester!

8am: Wake up, have my overnight oats and get ready (I'm lucky to live super close to campus and get some extra time in bed!)

9am: First lecture of the day, Design and Manufacture 3.

10am: Walk across campus to my second lecture, Heat Transfer 3.

11am: Head to the James Watt Engineering Building to spend some time getting work done in the common room. This is usually tutorial questions, assignment work or group projects. This day I worked on a report for my Mechanical Design class.

1pm: Head back to the flat for some lunch and a catch up with my flatmate.

2pm: Walk back to the James Watt for my Design and Manufacture lab. This was using a computer software to inform a material selection process.

4pm: Leave lab and head back to the flat to get ready for athletics training.

5pm: Meet the rest of the athletics club at the library to get the GUSA bus to training.

6pm: Training at the track with the sprints group, great to destress and socialise!

8pm: Finish training and get the bus back to campus. Have a quick shower and dinner at the flat.

9pm: Head to pre-drinks at a local pub for the athletics and lacrosse clubs joint social! Got to catch up with friends and meet new people.

10:30pm::30pm: Walk with everyone to the Glasgow University Union for Sports Wednesday, the weekly sports club night and one of the highlights of the week!

2am: Head home after HIVE (the union club) closes, with high hopes of making tomorrow's 9am...

University life is 100% what you make of it, and Glasgow has so much to offer outside of academics in terms of extracurriculars, sport and socialising!

Any questions about being an Engineering Student or student life at Glasgow, just let me know!

All the best,
Elise, Student Rep
