help in getting into medicine with non science (ish) alevels?

im currently year 12 and studying psychology, sociology, and politics for alevel. now i really reaaaally regret not picking bio or chem as i really want to get into medicine for uni.
im unable to change schools bc of other circumstances and will probs graduate with those 3 alevels. what can i do once i graduate to get into medicine? I've heard an access into higher education for science/medicine is good, but then also heard some unis dont take it. a friend told me i could take a gap year and learn all the bio/chem content for alevel and sit the paper then, but im worried about cost and the practicals.
if it helps I do live within London but for uni im considering anywhere really
would anybody know the best way to do this?

The Medicine forum gets a high volume of questions. Some of these are already answered by the resources and megathreads that members of the community and volunteers have created. This is an automatic post which is designed to highlight these resources.
Below is a thread directory of all the very useful threads in Medicine:

Medicine Thread Directory

If one of the threads in the directory is a more relevant place to ask your question, please post a reply in that thread to ask your question after reading the first post.

If your query is answered by one of the Megathreads or articles, and you would like us to close this thread for you, please reply to this thread with just the words "thank you". A member of our team will then get it locked.

The best option is doing an Access course to Medicine which will allow you to apply, but you need to have your science GCSEs too.

Hiya,

The only med school I know of that doesn't have specific subject requirements is Newcastle.
If you are a contextual applicant, foundation programmes could be an option but I'm not too familiar with these, so best checking.

Hope this helps

u also have an admissions test called the UCAT which is hard to prepare for by many.
most unis need at least chem, so best is to take a gap and do those a-levels, or redo year 12 in ur college but by choosing the right a levels for med this time

Hi! Most medical schools require science A levels to be studies. You may need to complete A levels tailored to getting you onto the course or looking into postgraduate schemes. Discuss further with your academics they can help alot also!
