Uni extenuating circumstances

I had an ongoing EC claim and the deadline to submit evidence was like after a week. My GP was making delays with the evidence even though I requested it on time. I contacted SSW at uni and they said they can call the GP practice to expedite. I also requested SSW to arrange a support meeting with my course department team to discuss the EC request. I went to the meeting with the mindset to explain my ECs and the delay and like what's their advice as the evidence deadline still hadn't passed. But their attitude was different I couldn't stay in the meeting as I was already too unwell I said Is it okay if I come back in a few minutes as I'm having issues with the network they said it's okay we will summarise in an email what we were going to say and send to you shortly.

The email ccd the department team and it said as you did not submit your dissertation you have failed it and you'll exit with a diploma. We tried to contact your trusted contact to let them know of your situation so they can support in this time.

I was still within the time period to submit evidence for the EC and they sent this email.

is it normal and fair?

there will be a panel for you to refer the issue to and challenge the decision. it might be some work but you should definitely do this! carry on with your GP because you'll need their evidence for the EC claim to continue. collate all your communications with both the university and the GP so you have an easy document to refer to (make sure dates are included). I would start at student services or your personal tutor. Try to work quickly with it because any undue delay might undermine your argument (i.e. don't wait for your GPs confirmation before challenging the decision - start the process now). This is not fair but unfortunately probably normal. They will have a process to deal with it though! best of luck
