Retaking A levels at 24, need tips and study friends

Hello,

A fellow international adult student here.

I am retaking A levels at age 24 because I got into a uni abroad with SAT scores and am planning on transferring to a German University now. Long story short, I did miserably on A2 due to personal issues back in 2021 and I am already too late to retake A2 only as 5 years has passed since I completed my AS levels.

Any international students studying for English Lit, History and Sociology? I am also thinking of replacing sociology with math but not quite sure how wise that is. I have no idea how my brain works at this point (just freaking out constantly because I am having a forced break from studies)

Lastly, I will complete 3 A levels in one sitting and working full time on top of it all. The only motivating part is that I have a 2 year uni experince as a Comms and Lit major.

Any advice regarding how to study and find materials?

Hi,

I’d recommend starting with the exam board specifications so you know exactly what you need to cover for each subject.

For STEM subjects (if you switch to maths), PhysicsandMathsTutor and MathsGenie are great websites for videos, topic by topic questions and past papers.

For essay subjects like English Lit, History and Sociology, focus on active recall using mindmaps and essay plans, then practise writing answers in timed conditions. Past paper questions are especially useful for building exam technique.

You can also use YouTube channels like tutor2u by searching your subject, exam board and specific modules for extra explanations and revision support.

Hope this helps,

Hi, it's completely normal to retake A levels later in life and your uni experience already gives you a big advantage with essay writing and independent study. English lit + History is a strong pair, and sociology is manageable, but only keep it if it genuinely suits you. CGP books, youtube explainers: CrashCourse, Tutor2u, MathsandPhysicsTutor - for maths if you decide to study.
