Work experience yr 10

People in year 10 are usually offered work experience, right?? My school doesn't do that so I was thinking I'd take a week off of school just for work experience, but is that allowed?

Also if I'm going to be an educational psychologist I should do work experience in a school, right?

Hi there,

Do you have a careers counsellor at your school? They would normally be the person you would want to contact regarding getting work experience. It's better to speak to your head of year to get the authorised absence in order to get work experience. But don't stress out if you don't manage to do it in Year 10. You will most likely get better and more relevant work experience opportunities in years 12 and 13, since that's when companies, organisations, and institutions expect the bulk of students to reach out to them.

I would say do your research as to what work experience is relevant to the field that you want to go into, but lean into the support from a school counsellor or a teacher at your school to help guide you through this process.

I wish you all the best for the future and hope you progress into your chosen career pathway. ☺️

Kind regards,
