Strategies for planning language questions and studying literature

Hi!
I really struggle with both english literatures and language as they are quite overwhelming to me. Can anyone give some tips for both?

LANGUAGE:
I want to pre-plan a question 5 for language paper 1. However, I don’t know where to start as when people say to pre-plan they don’t exactly say HOW they did and where they got ideas from. and my biggest worry is if i plan something it would be the total opposite. In my November mocks with paper 1 i managed to get a 6 without planning but i would love to get a 7 or 8 in the real thing. If anyone did plan any tips would be appreciated with how they started!

ENGLISH LITERATURE
English literatures my least favourite and hardest subject. As its content heavy i get easily overwhelmed and want to neglect it (which obviously does not help!). I understand the process of making mind maps, flashcards etc but still feel as if nothing is going in. Also for poetry i’m aiming to learn 5 poems in depth and then perhaps the others in less depth. How beneficial would this be?. Any tips in general for english literature is immensely helpful. i’m aiming for at least a 5 or 6 at this rate

Thank you!

I am guessing that this is for GCSEs 9-1. As the developer of Grade1to9 website, I can help. I would just identify the weak topics and work on that. If you do not do something, what is the chance you will get good at it? If you do not like it, what is the chance you will get into depth with it? Start from the bottom and go to the top. What is the simplest topic you seem to struggle on? For example, if you struggle on expanding quotations, you look for words that make an image in your head. Here are some Macbeth quotes with basic spot-outs:

1.

"Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires"

2.

"I have no spur... but only Vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself"

3.

"O, full of scorpions is my mind, dear wife!"

4.

"Will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood / Clean from my hand?"

5.

"Here’s the smell of the blood still. All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand."

Quotation 1. The word black shows that the desires are evil. The word deep shows how big the desire is. The word fires shows the brightness of the stars.
Quotation 2. Colloquialism (informal) language is used.
Quotation 3. Scorpions are known as dirty animals.
Quotation 4. It refers to Neptune (the largest planet) and how Macbeth is unsure its ocean can clean the blood. Blood either means injury/death or family.
Quotation 5. This shows how strong the blood smell is that all the perfumes of Arabia will not overwrite it.
