Is medicine realistic for me?

Hi,
I’m looking for honest advice about whether Medicine is still realistic for me.
My current situation is:
A-level mock 2 : A (Biology), B (Maths), C (Chemistry)
GCSE English: grade 4
I am an international student but will likely be classed as a home student after my second year at university
I am considering taking a gap year to resits english language

I want to become a doctor, but I’m not sure if my current grades are strong enough for UK medical schools.
My current possible options are:
Focus fully on A-levels in Year 13 and try to achieve AAA, resit GCSE English to get at least a 6, then take UCAT after Year 13 and apply with a gap year
Give up medicine and apply for a different course such as pharmacy (im not gonna really enjoy )or a related healthcare degree
Consider foundation medicine (if I meet requirements)
My main concern is whether my GCSE English grade 4 and current grades would still make Medicine realistic even if I improve them later.
I would really appreciate honest advice about:
Whether Medicine is still achievable for someone in my position
Whether gap year applications are realistic in this case
Any other alternative routes I should consider
Thank you.(im also in yr 12)

Hiya,
I think it really depends on what your predicted grades are. ABC for your mocks isn't too bad (for context I got ACD and ended up with A*A*A* predicted). But if the ABC end up being your predicted UCAS grades, then I would advise going against applying.
Do have a look at how unis view GCSE resits too, some only accept resits in exceptional circumstances (but not all so I always reccomened making a good old spreadsheet with all the info on).

These are just some things to consider, but don't be discouraged, find out what your predicted grades will be, do your research and go from there

Since you are classed as international student now, they will see you as an international student. Do research how unis look at GSCEs resits. However, I took the Graduate entry medicine route. My grades didn't rlly reach the requirements, however, by doing GEM, they don't consider a levels and GCSE as much or if at all. Depending on the money you can fund for yourself too as if you were going to go for pharmacy you will be paying international fees with no sfe (maybe please research this too).

But ultimately, DO NOT GIVE UP ! If medicine is your dream, try to see what you need to do to boost ur application

Apologies I didn’t get pinged this for some reason!
They were a little before the big summer ones, we did in class mocks prior to)in I think around April time) and was able to get AAA in the Y12 mocks (I couldn’t get A*s as it was AS level)
Feel free to ask any more qs
