Hii, I got an offer for LAET but I wanted to ask quite a few questions about studying there(sorry).

How do the notebook and folders work? Would we need to rake them all everyday and do we keep our note in folder or book?
What time does the day end because on the website it says after Intervention it ends at 4 but do we have Intervention everyday and does everyone have it?
Do teachers allow us to use ipad or laptop in class? Specifically for math, FM, physics and comp sci?
Finally, what do most people wear for uniform (girls)? In my current school we were business formal but they let us wear any shirt/ jumper or top with school trousers and skirt so is the uniform more strict?

Thank youu.

Hey,

I also got an offer, and even a postcard saying I did well lol. Though, I assume they send it out to all applicants or something of that nature.

My subjects are Maths, Further, Physics and English Lit, so very similar to yours; and I was wondering why you want to go to LAET over other schools?

In a sense, I am trying to decipher other peoples logic behind their choice, as I have received an offer for LAE and HWSF as well and need to decide.

Could you share?

Oooo you must've done really well if u got a postcard. I wanna go lae tottenham because it's generally better than most others schools i applied to.i also chose it because it is a bit more bearable to go to in the sense it isn't just lessons and studying for example the societies, clubs and apparently there are a lot of opportunities for extracurricular. I also applied to HWSF but honestly I was like 2 marks of in the test so yeaa. I think that if you are okay with quite strict schools and a large work load I would say going to HWSF is a better choice but if you also want to enjoy sixth form (u will at HWSF aswell) with a more fun environment LAET would be better. Anyways best of luck wherever you go!

Thanks for asking. I want to study Civil Engineering at either Imperial, Cambridge or MIT.

I wanted to choose a fourth subject that was highly respected outside of STEM, especially in wider academic culture, and one that I was also already very good at; and I landed on either English Literature or Politics.

To my understanding, uni applications are beyond simply getting all A*’s. Universities, especially abroad, want students who display initiatives outside of their subject area as well.

And in the end I chose English Lit for LAET specifically because I liked the course and literature on offer.

Why did you choose your subjects?

Hi, I'm studying at LAET. I take Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Compsci.

The notebook and folder situation is pretty much up to you and how you want to organise your notes.

Usually school ends at 15:30 except Thursdays which ends at 14:30.

Not everyone has intervention but it is usually an hour after school - ends at about 16:30.

In terms of devices you're expected to have a iPad/laptop to use in lesson.

Uniform is not that strict, it's smart casual so any shirt with trousers/skirt will be fine
Hope this helps )

I totally agree, I was going to pick an essay subject but I kinda gave up since I suck at them, instead I just focus on my extracurriculars and hope thats enough for uni. I picked my subjects because I also wanna do either civil engineering at imperial or abroad but I also really like computer science and programming so I thought I might aswell take it as fourth.

Ohh okay thank you. But do you need to take the folders everyday and do the books need to be A4 or is fine if they are smaller like B5. Lastly do you need grid books for maths or no?
Sorry for all the questions

Oh wow that's kinda cool yk, I didn’t expect to find many people into Civil Engineering as well tbh.

Computer science is a really good pick btw. Lots of civil engineering now focuses on Digital Twins of buildings, and using advanced modelling; so those skills are directly transferable, and it works really well on a uni application.

Have you thought about work experience programs yet? They’ll help as the extracurricular you mentioned.

Any firms in mind (ie. Costain or Arup)?

Thanks I also rarely meet people who specifically wanna do civil engineering. As for work experience I haven't done any yet since I've been busy but I was thinking of costain or Buro Happold. Do you know what type of civil engineering are you interested in?

I’m aiming for infrastructure. Wbu?

I honestly just love the complexity of massive projects. I was on this work experience program and I was standing out on an observation deck; it was honestly awe inspiring. And even the little details that go into everything, I love it all so much.

Also, I would highly recommend Costain. Having been on a placement or two with them, the people there are really incredible, and they will teach you a lot.

I’d advise cold emailing [email protected] with your CV and cover letter.

If you don’t have a CV, I would recommend using myperfectcv.co.uk to build your first one and watch a few videos on best practices.

You need to make your passion abundantly clear, they very much like put together and passionate young people.

I'll definitely try to do costain then. I'm also interested in infrastructure and general structural engineering but I find airport projects specifically are the most interesting because there are just sooo many different parts to it like a puzzle made of many many pieces.

I dont know anyone out of london but u should be fine cause I live like over an hour away by train although I live in london. Im also not in any of the priority groups but as long as ur aps is higher than 8.25 u r basically guaranteed a place since you will be given the first enrollment slot and be put in group 1(i heard this from others and it was in another thread). Don't worry about it too much.

The social aspect of school is really well done, there's a lot to do that extends beyond the curricular and the friend that I have that goes there has the same ambitions as me and can vouch for the school also it's really close for me compared to other sixth forms. Buildings good too tbf
