Where should I study medicine? At St Andrews or Glasgow University?

Hiii, I having a difficult time deciding where I want to study medicine the next few years and was wondering if anyone has any advice choosing between St Andrews and Glasgow?
Hi there,

Congratulations on getting the offer! You did so well. It is quite a difficult decision to make. Just wanted to check in if you have been able to come for the offer holders day? If not then we also have online offer holders day on 1st May https://www.gla.ac.uk/undergraduate/offerholders/ohd/online/. Hopefully you will be able to get some info from there.

I am also a student at Glasgow Uni. But I am from the business school. So can’t say exactly about medicine, but I can find some info out for you. Personally, I really enjoy doing business at Glasgow. Some of my friends do medicine and from what I have heared is it is an intensive course with hands on training and clinical visits. You will work very closely with you professor who will be a GP. They also go for multiple hospital shifts to work and learn at.

Other than academics, Glasgow offers lot so clubs, society and work opportunities to get in lots of different experience. The night life is very active and there is always something going on to keep you interested in different things.

If you have any questions let me know and I will try my best.

Best of luck!

I’m not really sure tbh, the St Andrews course is 6 years rather than 5 and I have to move 4th year. For Glasgow it’s really close the home and I love both universities but I might want to go somewhere new.

Are you confident about getting the grades for both?
If yes, then re-visit both, so see your gut reaction.
Have a look at the teaching styles and accomodation. Think about whether you want to move cities for St A. Sometimes even after all of that - you could write them both on a piece of paper and pick one out without looking. How do you feel? Disappointed or pleased? It seems simple but has worked in the past with a student of mine. Good luck!

I’m in a similar position! Would appreciate tips on deciding between a pretty small town and city?

Well the main thing is to remember that there is no 'right' answer, as the one that would be best fit for one person would be another person's worst!
Questions to ask yourself:
Do you think you would be happier living in a town / city? When visiting which do you feel more settled at?
How do transport links for placements etc compare?
Which fits better for your preferred hobbies and clubs?
Which is closer to home (if that is an important factor:smile:?
Have you looked into general cost of living for the 2 places?
Have you compared the course structure?

Come back if you need any more!
