Do any of them include any sort of work experience or study abroad opportunity?
These add enormously to your graduate CV and employability.

Helloo!

Congrats on both ur offers, hopefully I can help a little bit on the Lancaster side.

As a 3rd year student, I'll be honest, if your only con for choosing a uni is the ranking, I would still choose that uni. I very much get that I sound biased cause I'm a lancaster rep lol, but genuinely ranking doesn't really matter tbh.

When u graduate, employers don't tend to look at ur uni, just at your degree. All teachers at every uni will be experts in their field, and will have teaching experience. If you were choosing between a very top and very bottom ranking, there may be a felt difference, but between two similar ranking unis, you probably wouldn't notice any kind of difference.

For a uni, as you'll be not just working but living there for 3 years, it's far more important to go somewhere you'll enjoy. Social life is the thing that'll keep you happy, work is just work.

I hope I don't come across as super bias lol, because genuinely I think that in choosing a uni, u need to prioritise how happy u think you'll be, not just some outside ranking.

Hi @olihol24

Congratulations on your offers from both Lancaster and Loughborough.

I am a second year student at Lancaster University. Lancaster is a very nice university with a range of facilities and hang out spots on campus (e.g. Costa, Greggs, Coop, Spar, a few college bars). Lancaster offers a wide range of societies for students to become apart of from sports, recreational and educational, which helps in meeting new people outside of your degree and college. Whilst town, there is a range of shops, coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and activities to do in town (e.g. Lancaster castle, Williamson's park and a few museums). Lancaster is also really close to the Lake District, where I do a few hikes with the university's hiking society. Also it is really easy to go to Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Liverpool by train so it is easy to explore outside of a city for a day out.

University rankings aren't really that important when it comes to graduate outcomes as that depends on what your overall degree classification is and your work experience. Lancaster offers placements options and advertises internship and part time job opportunities for you to get involved in to improve your CV. There is also the Lancaster award which focuses on your employability skills and degrees normally have a careers module to help you think about employment in your final year. In my opinion, what made me choose Lancaster was what the university felt like to me when looking around and what the course offered, which when comparing other university's I generally just preferred Lancaster as a university. Like you said I really enjoy having a quieter university and Lancaster is really good at balancing a social life whilst also having some nice areas which are great just to have a break.

Hope that helps, and let me know if you have any questions,
Emily

Hello,

I'm a Lancaster student but live in Loughborough! As others have said, University is where you are living for at least three years. If the courses are similar in your preference then absolutely choose the place you think you would enjoy living in and being a student at more!

They are both similar in size, but I would say Lancaster is definitely more lively than Loughborough. Loughborough can be nice but sadly a lot of the town centre and shops are closing, that said the campus is like it's own town and has everything you could ever need! Both the campuses are nice and full of greenery, Lancaster is much more compact however whereas Loughborough is very spread out. I wouldn't say ranking matters too much in this situation as both Unis are of a similar high level. Perhaps if you are near to Lancaster it would be worth visiting us on an open day if you haven't already?

Hope I helped,
Zak
