Trying to apply to Courtauld after firmed choices + ucas deadline???

I’ve firmed UCL as my firm choice and Bristol as my insurance for BA History of Art. But I now kinda regret my choice and wish I applied to the Courtauld in the first place (it wasn’t in my 5 choices), and I have the grades for it but obviously I’ve now passed the deadline. Is there any possible way at all to now apply to the Courtauld and add it to my list? Or would I just have to apply through Clearing on results day? Please help me out

I'm afraid you would have to go through clearing, yes, and decline your offers, which is obviously risky as there is no guarantee that you'd receive one from the Courtauld. You should call them and ask if they would accept you if you release yourself to clearing, but they might refuse to confirm or deny either way without a clearing number...

Do you have grades in hand ie have you already taken your A-levels?

I would note the Courtauld has only once been in clearing to my knowledge (about 10 years ago) with only a single place, which was (reportedly) taken within 20 minutes.

I would not bank on there being clearing spaces. It's possible but a fairly long shot.

Have you actually phoned Courtauld to check if they might accept an Extra application?

And, always remember that you could just drop your entire UCAS application for this year and reapply to 5 new choices including Courtauld next year. If this is really what you want, its worth a gap year.

The Courtauld is in Clearing every year. Current undergraduate capacity at the Courtauld exceeds the number of offerees who take up places. The Courtauld does not, however, fill its places up with low performing students.

Really? I haven't seen that before except once a long time ago. Perhaps it's just by virtue of being only focused on a single subject I see less commentary on it in clearing :dontknow:

Yes, really! The Courtauld has a lot of capacity. However, that does not mean that it is full of under qualified students or that its History of Art degree is not a demanding undergraduate course of study: quite the contrary. And the Courtauld does have a certain number of early drop outs - students who quickly realize that it's an intense undergraduate degree that requires a great deal of cultural hinterland and that it isn't perhaps for them.

I’m sitting my A-levels this year, and not really looking to taking a gap year. I might look to emailing or calling them. But another thing I am worried about is accommodation - especially since I just booked the accom I want for UCL, so honestly might stick to UCL at this point…

The Courtauld and UCL are VERY different for History of Art
