Well my teacher who was in le famous Castle is so mad and hyper I think the effects of the alcohol from Durham must've stayed in her system lol.

This is true for all universities. It's as much about the drinking as it is about the learning!
Reply 9
Just seems excessive at Durham from what I've read. Alcohol for alcohol's sake kinda thing...

drinking is pointless in england...few beers are nice there.

It's true that you can find yourself drinking all the time if you're not careful but you just have to make the effort to find other things to do. It is possible....try and get involved in clubs and socs.
And anyway, you can have a perfectly good night out without drinking huge amounts....in fact you'll probably have a better night!
Have a listen to my radio show (Tues 12.10-altho not on this week) we always give details on loads of events that don't require alchohol...we even go and test them ourselves...

Worst thread ever.

On a better note, my homebrew brown ale finally matured this week. Expect to be reading my obituary some time soon.

floreat boozium.

and if you believe everything you "read" about durham, then you're probably a little bit silly. It's not like the university has a large, flashing neon sign reading "Booze, get it here".

And while belgian beers are nice, English ales are great for when you want a pint of something other than head.

belgian beers are the best. some people in england dont know anything about foreign beers. they think stella is the best beer in the world...in reality, its low grade rubbish over here

on the topic of ale etc...what does the real ale society do?
I was joshing. I went on holiday to belgium over the summer for the reason of beer and beer alone. It's great stuff, but sometimes a nice pint of ale just hits the spot. Although thinking about it, ale mis essentially "yeast juice". The real ale soc isn't really that great, they're quite poorly organised unfortunately and not a lot tends to get done.

Stella is awful, awful stuff. gives belgian beer a bad name, and is drunk solely by utter *****. Give me a kwak any day, if only for the wonderful glass.

:hello:

cool, where abouts in belgium did u go?

which beers did u try? maes, duvel, jupiler, palm? my favourite is maes
Tried all those and many, many more. It's all about the variety for me, s many ace beer to try. We went to brussels, brugge and blankenberge. Unfortunately, blankenberge was almost devoid of all human life on the day we went. Brugge was awesome, though. So much nice beer, and good scenery.

There is a majority of people at all universities who drink a lot, but at all I've met plenty of people who drink little or nothing and rarley if ever get drunk, and yes its still quite easy to have fun becuse if you're that type of person chances are you'll make similar kinds of friends and do things which are fun and not drunken

Mmm... alcohol!

I really don't think Durham's any worse than any other university when it comes to drinking. It's also pretty good if you're teetotal like me - soft drinks are pretty cheap in college bars, especially Castle, and free during Alcohol Awareness Week
