Work out the forces acting on the box (tension in the string - get from weight of the 2kg mass)
Use the resultant force acting horizontally on the box in Newton II to find the accelaration.
For the 8kg box:
T - 6.0 = 8a
--> T = 8a + 6

For the 2kg mass:
2g - T = 2a
--> T = 2g - 2a

* Acceleration (Box) = Acceleration (2kg Mass) = Acceleration (System)

Equating the expressions for T:
--> 2g - 2a = 8a + 6
--> 10a = 19.6 - 6 = 13.6
--> a = 13.6/10
--> a = 1.36

--> Acceleration (Box) = 1.4 ms^-2 (2.S.F)
