Hmmm. Firstly, are we allowed to discuss what our letters actually said here? And if so, does everyone being pooled receive the same old standard reply?

No I think they're different, because someone had posted the start of theirs and it's different to mine. Also someone got a page on pool stats, which I didn't get. So I think their reply is just depentent on what college you've applied to.
And I don't see why we wouldn't be allowed to discuss/write what our letters said?

Pooling letter

I am writing in accordance with the timetable outlined in the University prospectus to keep you updated about the progress of your application to Cambridge. At present, we are unable to give you a final decision about your application which is still under consideration here at Magdalene. In the meantime we have also made your application available to other Colleges via the Inter-Collegiate Pool in order to maximise your chances of gaining a place in Cambridge.

What I want to know is why they are still considering me - surely being placed in the pool means your first choice college doesn't want you?!
If someone's doing IB, what would the requirements be to qualify for the P pooling? Just wondering

That sounds like they're pooling you to compare you to other people in the pool but they are still considering giving you an offer :dontknow: so if they don't find anyone they prefer in the pool they might still take you?

Mine says

Pooling Letter
I am writing to you in connexion with your application to Cambridge to read Philosophy. Unfortunately we have not been able to make you an offer at Downing College at this stage. Strong competition has resulted in many good applicants being squeezed out. However, we have sufficient confidence in your abilities and potential to recommend you to the Inter-Collegiate Winter Pool, where your file will be available for consideration by other Colleges.

Which sounds like my college just point blank don't want me anymore :rolleyes:

Plus I have a paragraph on interviews after that, I hope that doesn't mean I've been pooled in the S category, I don't want another interview :shifty:

Mine starts with the lovely sentence saying basically "After careful consideration we will not be able to give you an offer". After reading this I told my whole family that I'd been rejected before continuing on to find "However we believe that your application is good enough to be placed in the winter pool". :rolleyes:

I should think each college has a generic offer/rejection/pool letter - they aren't individually written, and besides, the semantics wouldn't reveal much if they were considering the pooling process is being done today and the letters would have been written a fair few days ago.

ahh I wish.
there are at least 3 magdalene english applicants who have ben pooled. They have 1 offer from other colleges per year for english. argh.
my next bit says:
Pooling letter

As a result of this process, one of the following outcomes will occur:
a) you may still be offered a place here at Magdalene. We still have a small number of places to fill in a range of subjects;
b) you may be offered a place at another College without further interview;
c) you may be invited for further interviews at another college;
d) you may be unsuccessful in obtaining a Cambridge place either at Magdalene or at another College.

I want a or b, hopefully c at least, but statistically probably d :frown:
OK here goes basically the first paragraph is commiserative ending with "We greatly regret having to inform you that, because of exceptionally strong competition, we are unable to offer you a place at Churchill on this occasion.

But goes on to say: "However, we judged yours a strong application and accordingly have placed it in the Winter Pool for consideration by other Colleges."
I'm probably reading too much into these letters haha I have theories about how we've all been pooled.

Well for the past 4 years, in NatSci at least, there haven't been any offers to people being pooled from Homerton at all :frown:
