Thats only because a large number of us have received rejection letters today. There is still hope for some. Dont get drawn in by us

Don't be silly now; just the mail isn't working as fast in some areas. :^_^:

Guys, what if nobody recieves a letter tomorrow. What are the chances of being offered a place by your original college?

Very small indeed, but it's possible.

If you have at least 7A*s at GCSE and 90% average at AS, you must be pooled under at least category P.

All the gory details

You got called back for interview, so you must have done something right.
Reply 2610
yeah, and my interview was ok but im fearing that "10% quota on international students" rule might influence the decision:frown: or the fact the the other person who was reinterviewed today at the same college for the same subject is a GUY. and there are very few guys applying for art history. good for him:frown:

there are so many things that affect our applications. its ridiculous.
Reply 2611
they are restricted by a lot of things. even if they think you superclever and enthusiastic they might not have a place for you. thats a fact.

There's no male-female quota though is there? Unless they - for some reason - want to teach men I can't imagine that him being one would have that much of an effect.

I am off to bed. I shall update you tomorrow with my rejection when the post comes. :beard:

:goodnight:

andryroo, i guess therer is no quota. but they like to balance that ratio. besides, they know that it is men who become the best art historians... so they want male students. and when you have 10 female applicants and 1 male, unconsciously the guy gets some credit.

There might be cleverer, more enthusiastic people...but they're not restricted by quotas.

'We will not introduce targets or quotas for people from specific backgrounds as we feel very strongly that applicants should be admitted on academic merit and potential to succeed in their chosen course.'
http://www.cam.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/info/policy.html

thats what they say. for my course they never ever take more than 3-4 international students per year. and so many in fact apply. i doubt only 3-4 are clever enough to be accepted.

Why do you doubt that? Because you're bitter? BITTER?!

Just because in the past the best art historians have been male doesn't mean that it'll continue that way, and I think they'll know that - they're not going to let in someone who is less good than you because he's male and one day he might blossom into a great art historian. I'm sure there's other reasons (such as the historical difficulties of women in education, etc etc) that are less relevant now.

And you would hope that they would be able to see past that - perhaps it might be more surprising, but the novelty of having a male on the course isn't going to last long so I'd imagine that they'd strive to pick the best person, regardless.

not at all. undegaduate course at cambridge is national, not international. so its fair enough that they have a quota. im just saying that the whole process is not that black and white, there are things they take into consideration.

They get more money from you though (as an international student) don't they? Because the fees aren't capped and they can choose what they want.

I know that probably doesn't make as much of a difference at Cambridge than the less well off institutions, but still it would seem that placing a quota on international students wouldn't be all that great for them.
