Does anyone know how likely it is to receive offer without interview (I don't think I was autopooled).

I refer you back to the stats I posted earlier  :

For those who didn't get the letter with winter pool stats (last year's pool):

- 3,174 applicants pooled
- 548 pooled applicants re-interviewed
- 794 pooled applicants made offers, of these:
+ 509 received a direct offer without an interview
+ 285 received offers following a pool interview
- 93 pooled applicants received offers from the college that pooled them.

This includes autopools.

yeah its real... but its widely considered the worst category to be pooled for. It means they pooled someone not necessarily because they were a strong candidate, but just for politics' sake.

did you apply through CSAS?
i dunno what to think of the auto-pooled category. (of which I know im in)

on the one hand, it could be considered bad, because they are only pooling you because they "had" to.

on the other hand, it could be considered good, because you are, on paper, and academically, the best of the rejects. cause im guessing everyone in the pool had a bad/not great interview (a good interview would normally lead to an offer i pressume).

I dunno what to think of it all.

I'm sorry that you got rejected. But if they didn't pool you, then it sadly wasn't to be. I'm sure they had their reasons.

Economics is one of the most competitive courses at Cambridge, I can imagine a lot of other excellent candidates have been rejected too. It is unfortunate, however good luck with the rest of your choices.
seriously, no-one cares

Many pooled candidates may have had a pretty good interview, but there was just no space left for them. (A very oversubscribed college). I'm not sure if they'll consider the UCAS app/essays more than the interviewers' notes...

Also many people could've been put in group A/B but still with 7+A* and >90% UMS
Sorry, you have to just accept it though, nothing you can do. I'm sure you'll find a university you'll love, despite it not being Oxbridge material  good luck with the rest of your application x

not at all i'm afraid... If you have 4 absolutely stunningly outstanding applicants. and a college only has 2 places for a particular subject... it tries its hardest to differentiate who the best two are, then pools the other two. The majority of the pool is supposedly made up this way, with most of the candidates being outstanding on paper and in interview... there just aren't enough places

You're not necessarily in the auto-pooling category just because you fulfil the conditions for it

I didn't get pooled, even though I should have automatically been. But I screwed up my interview badly so I guess that even though I satisfied all the requirements (10A*, 90% in AS, etc), I performed so badly that there probably was no point in pooling me.

its not all about grades you know, you probably didn't have that extra spark they were looking for that woulld be helpful in a university situtaion as opposed to school..

i shall hope that to be the case.

Sounds really frustrating!

Perhaps asking your college for some feedback might shed some more light on the matter. Get your school to do this - the feedback can be useful, giving you reasons why they weren't able to make you an offer. Some colleges also tell you your rank, i.e. how close you were to getting a place.

Hope you can get some closure on the matter!

So if you applied to an over suscribed college, would you be disadvantaged to people who make an open application?
