OMG!!! my SAQ is back alive and i'm still at Churchill but i can't believe this!!
i put my name wrongly on SAQ!!!
my first name is split into first name and middle name when i have no middle name at all!!!
what do you think will happen?
i sent the college email asking them to rectify this.
i cant' believe this!!!!

do you think this will affect anything?
my name on UCAS form seems to be correct though

It looks like there are two phases to the pooling - the initial one where colleges grab who they are most interested in, calling them for interview or making an offer directly, and then the second phase where they fill up the last remaining places (like for where someone is rejected after a pool interview). I'm guessing (and it's only speculation), since interviews begin tomorrow, the first stage is over, so files are going back to colleges.
I know someone who got into Oxford after being pooled, and after the head of sixth form sent in a letter of support on his behalf. Is it fair? Do you think the letter made any difference?
My saq remains inactive. the distress of this all is subsiding, i'm kind of bored of it instead! a good thing probably but no doubt panic willlllllllllll return
It seems to me that this was a publicity exercise for the school:

I'm sorry, Jonny, but you can see we did everything we could on your behalf,

or

Our influence was decisive.

Only the admissions tutor could say whether it had an effect, though it seems unlikely unless he/she especially valued the referee's opinion on a personal basis.

Same as you on both counts my SAQ is still not active - the wretched thing refuses to work and yeah I am a bit bored now and I think others are too, like this thread isn't moving as fast as it was a couple of days ago.
AHHH who knows what all this means - I'm bored of collecting new crumbs of information every two minutes!

coffee27: hehe I don't think what happened to you will affect anything...sounds like a genuine error, but that raises questions like, who's been tampering with your name?
I thought you cannot get "pooled" in Oxford? I assume they either give you an offer or rejection unlike Cambridge where there is a pool for colleges to look through. I always thought an Oxford pool was when you didn't get into your 1st choice college but another college accepted so there is no waiting unlike Cambridge.

What the hell!? I can't login to the SAQ now, after my college had changed to New Hall. It does say "System error" instead of "application no longer active" but I have no idea why it doesnt work

Maybe you forgot to log out, I think it says system error in that case.

Good point. Oxford applicants all know the result by Christmas. By the way, the second college interview takes place for all candidates in many subjects. Perhaps the OP meant Cambridge, or was being mischievous.

That sounds logical. However I guess if a college takes in x number of applicants for a second round of interviews, but none of them were good enough, they might still draw from the pool. So nothing's lost yet!

I'm worried about the fact that, being an international applicant, I'm not allowed to have interviews (if New Hall were so interested, since I had one ABYSMAL and one better interview). So this would probably disadvantage me...I'd really love to have another chance :/

silvertine: i don't think it's possible that i made a mistake.. UCAS form is correct and my oversea application is double checked by my referee and couple of my friends also looked at it so if there was a mistake, it should have been spotted. Maybe i made a mistake when i was filling up SAQ... though it's very unlikely. no one would split his name by mistake.... i'm thinking the computer automatically split up my name cause my first name has two words in it. Typical korean name.. what to do..

someone tempering with my name sounds even more unlikely.. lol

My SAQ is now active (was inactive before), and my college is still stated as the one I was pooled from (Clare). Any idea what that means?

no i was thinking that it was a genuine error on their part, not yours  ...which led me to the question of who's been tampering with the name... you could take rnshan's advice and thrust a bribe, although, they might put you in a 'bribe pool' hehe

Yep - if they reject people they've called for interview from the pool (which does happen), then those places still have to be filled from the pool.

I think that people who were recommended by their college (instead of auto-pooled) stand the best chance of getting an offer now.

shh....... do not make it so public - they may close down my only route
So people could be "auto pooled" and "recommended pooled" is that right? Is this not just a case of differing semantics in the letters that ultimately mean the same thing?

My letter said I was being recommended to the winter pool but I assume this is the way it is for everyone in the pond...
