Why is UEA so cool?

I've been at UEA for quite a few years.

There is not one particular thing about it which makes it stands out, except the fact, it is simply unique. I don't think there is another university which has such a close, sort-of family feel to it; from day one, you feel part of it.

A wide variety of opinion, background, profession, study, tastes and what not are found on and off campus; there is something for everyone. The schools are all very close to their students. There is not a corporate feel to the place (though I have found this to be changing a little in recent years) like many other universities. It is actually about education, and more importantly, enjoying it.

I should think one of the main reasons for this is its relative obscurity and georaphical isolation. The nearest university town is Cambridge (which is quite a way away), and being apart from the rest of the world gives it a genuine identity, and this feeling leads to a positive and happy lifestyle, as expressed in the National Student Survey. It doesn't need to be justified; it simply is the coolest place to be.

UEA was just my university to fill in the gap... but by everything I keep hearing about it it sounds fantastic...
Open day, here I come...!

Be careful of the open days! It was my basically my last choice on UCAS, after the open day it became my 1st and 2nd (turned down edinburgh and york to come here) 4 years later do i regret it?

Absolutley not, best 4 years of my life.

Wow you turned down Edinburgh and York?? UEA must be pretty awesome.

The thing that is worrying me is, is the uni as it seems on an open day...?

well i went there on a sixth form residential trip for 3 days (don't ask!) and HATED it.

i honestly don't understand what all the fuss is about.. it's a horrible campus, in a horrible area. i don't want to offend anyone but seriously, they'd have to pay me to go there.

but it all comes down to individual opinion i guess. maybe it's the people who make it? i visited out of uni term time so perhaps i shouldn't judge so harshly without visiting when it's more 'alive'

I did my undergraduate degree at Bristol, and, having spent time here, I think I'd give serious consideration to changing that to UEA if I could do it all over again.

lol UEA is probably a good laugh, but it is nowhere near York/Edinburgh in prestige.

We're not talking about prestige!

Life is not always about prestige. You need a good balance between enjoying uni and getting a good result out of it. With UEA you can do that, and it's still very highly regarded. You could go York and hate it for three years, just to get a degree from a 'prestigious' uni, but would it be worth it? Hell no.

I suppose so, but, in your case, with an LLB from UEA, you won't be able to get into the Bar very easily - for example.. it matters then

Erm, pardon? UEA has a very solid academic reputation. It is no. 23 out of 113 institutions in the Times League Table, it has over 18 subjects rated "outstanding", it has topped the Student Satisfaction Survey for five years, teaching assessments havent gone below 22 out of 24 and the number of applicants continues to rise. Its a little gem.

Dont come into this thread just to be a little snob.

and 90% of statistics are rubbish. you think employers care about that?

sorry but you *** me off with your attitude.

Er, what attitude? All I did was list the pros of UEA. Hardly offensive. You're the one who came in here with your little sarcastic comments. I see you're also fighting your case in the "prestige" thread. Ha ha. Bugger off.

EDIT: OH and you have a warned post now? LOLZ.

I could list the pros to Bangor and they would be equally impressive (or not).

I have been warned that because this forum is for UEA people I can't speak the truth.

peace.
