is the city centre within walking distance from the uni...does anyone know if there is a chinatown there?

Newcastle Campus is in the city centre - about 5 minutes walk from the main shopping street.

Chinatown is based around Stowell Street, which is about 10 minutes walk from the University campus (but still very near the centre of the city)

If you've got any more questions, let me know

Thanks for the reply...I'm deciding on Newcastle or Nottingham as firm, I've visited Nottingham (city and Uni), but I only went to see the Uni at Newcastle...so wouldn't mind anything you'd like to add about the city!

can i also ask, if you got the 'far away' accomodation...i read some are 2-3 miles away, how much would the public transport cost to get to uni...?

To get from Henderson Hall to uni takes about 20-25 minutes by bus, and costs 75p one way, (or at least it uses to). Should imagine Saint Mary's is cheaper as it's closer.

Leazas accommodation is probably in walking distance as it's right next to St James' and you can hear the crown from around the uni.

The city really is fantastic and not just because I'm a Geordie. The centre has just had it's 100 year old archictecure cleaned so it's really beautiful. There's loads of historical ***** about, Northumberland is the 3rd most expensive street in UK after oxford and Prince's street, 2 malls, largest mall in Europe over the ewater in Gateshead, top clubs, lots of bars cheap and posh. Thai , Persian and Korean food available with hundreds of Italians and the usual Indians and Chinese. Relatively cheap compared to other places, friendly people and a really good feel in the city centre. 'Buzzin,' if you like. And with two Unis in the city and 3 or 4 colleges within bus distance, it's got lots to offer for students.
