They are both good universities. Consider the factors: do you want to live near home, active student union/life, good city, and lastly compare the course content to see which one suits you.

I would choose Man Met because manchester is a better city than portsmouth.
If your looking in terms of best uni, Portsmouth is easily the best (regards of what AT82 will say.lol)

portsmouth is alot better than manchester met even though both don't have a great reputation. Manchester may have a more city feel, but that factor shouldn't really decide which uni you will go to on its own. I think that factor is probably the onyl one manchester met has over pompey.
Why is Portsmouth better than MMU? Probably, AT82 would be biased though. :p:

Thanks guys for replying. I know both these unis arent great but no 'great' uni does my particular course! Plus alot of people on here are quick to air their views with regards to which ones are crap, but a general theme throughout this forum is that no uni is worth considering unless its premier league. lol What about those of us that want to help the division unis get promoted?

I apologise to those that have already replied to my post because this isnt aimed at any of you.
The most important thing is to get a good degree classification.

No contest, Portsmouth has the seaside!

Manchester possibly has the best night life, as it has more nightclubs than anywhere in the UK apart from London, the city centre (which is quite small compared to London) has 600 licenced premises, a large number of these are bars and resturarents.

You really need to visit both places to decide which is best for you, if you like alternative music, love clubbing, like the city hussle and bussle then Manchester is probably for you.

If you like open space and not bothered about night life then perhaps you won't like Manchester.

Some random facts:

Manchester HE student population: 88,000
Manchester has the biggest public library in Europe, the biggest public park in Europe and of course the busiest bus routes in Europe where buses outside the universities are every 2 seconds or better (so it seems)>

As Trev said I am highly biased.

I have been to both places twice now!

I am into clubbing but both Manchester and Portsmouth have got some gud clubs.

The only weakness I can see with Manchester over Portsmouth is having to travel to ur halls after a nite out cos in Portsmouth it wud be on my door step lol

Pompey is performing well in the league table in terms of new universities. It's increased it's standard signifiicantly over the years especially last year, it's not that bad of a uni. Entry standards are rising i think. Pompey would be the best imo. Also the seaside is nice

Is Manchester one of the highest student population of Europe too?

Yeah i think it is

Salsbury
Manchester
Mancheste Met

In one place, when i was in manchester the whole area was flooded with students. Totally the opposite at ucl. Maybe because of the different times i went.
Where is Salsbury?
I say Portsmouth  Because... everything's nice and compact - very close to whichever halls you're in. You get the seaside, you get better weather, plus you get Gunwharf  Designer everthing for 1/10th the price, plus a brand spanking new 500ft viewing tower

Yep apparantly it does have the highest concentration of students, London probably has more students but they are much much more spread out where as MU, MMU and Salford are all within a 30 minute walk of each other and all three of them are some of the biggest universities in the country. Salford seems small compared MMU and MU, but its still one of the biggest universities in the county.

You really notice is when the students are not here, Oxford Road seems empty and you can actually get space on the dance floors!

I know a load of people went to Portsmouth this year from my year and all are absolutely loving it! So, on that basis I'd say Portsmouth but tbh I don't know a whole lot about Man Met!

Salford and MMU are still amongst the biggest though, Salford has more students than Oxford does for example.

Manchester is now the biggest university in the UK.
