Whats the point then if grades don't represent intelligence?

Itz BEEN A LOOOOOOOOOONG time since iv posted on this forum, but i have been reading some of the threads you have written.

First of the so called "unregistered" user who thinks grades grades grades, mean everything, Believe me they dont! Im a university student btw.
Having a social life is an Important part of your life when growing up!
tbh mate from reading your threads you seem immature, naieve and ARROGANT!

And beleive me they will not get you anywhere in life, its important that you develop social skills and learn to communicate with others.

Grades DONT MEAN ANYTHING!

Alevels hey they get you into uni, but after that their more or less pointless!

Alevels and GCSES are soooo broad! wait till you start your degree!

Employers like those individuals with experience, experience is more respected over Qualifications in this day and age!
Go and do job searches on the internet if you dont beleive me!

And i have mates who work in industiral areas who have told me the exact same thing!
Besides MONEY is not everything, it helps, but it doesnt bring happiness.

beleive you and me id rather go out and have jokez with my mates rather then sit at home and think about how to make money!

My advice to all you students is live life to the max, enjoy yourself, jus make sure you dont neglect your studies in anyway!

Obviously do work hard, but no one expects you to work every day all the time!
Thats madness, it will drive you crazy! and cause depression!

Go into college or school and try and make a conversation with 10 different people, and tell me how long your conversation lasts, i bet you dont go on for longer then a few sentences!

And wat others get up to thats up to them, you just worry about urself and not other peoples business! if u choose to ignore that last bit wel dont be surprised if u get a fist through ur face!

10 a/b grades? haha..thats pathetic. i did well better than u and thats because i didnt go out. so who will get a better job? who will make more money? who will enjoy l8r life more? me or u? i think ME.

and by sayign 10 A/B i bet u mean 1A/9B idiot. u r not even close to me intellectually.
people who get top grades and have a social life will get the best jobs because who wants to work with a complete loner? drinking, playing sport etc teaches you social skills and shows you can achieve good grades without dedicating your whole life to working. If all somebody does is school work can their 11 A*s only show how much effort they have to put in and not how intelligent they are.

Thank you and goodnight

What thread was that - I don't remember seeing it.

It sounds very... uh... interesting.
Hmmm...it was quite a long time ago

*does search involving the words 'Mr White and toilet'*

No...can't find it I'm afraid...

Not sure whether it was one someone started about how to make money/swindels or something...as I say, it was a while back now.

Anyway- sorry for distracting the thread further.

the person who first wrote this post and is going around saying how clever he/she is... erm.. ur not demonstrating how clever u are by putting down everyone.

here's a point - grades represent academic intelligence. not everyone has that and yes, they might be jealous of u if u have. and yes it is something to be proud of if ur doing so well in ur studies....

BUT

Intelligence is also maturity, wisedom u gain throughout life, being "intelligent" to other people's feelings etc. This you cannot gain through A-level study or through reading in the library. For this you have to go out, meet a wide variety of people, and experience life.

Are you refering to the thread a while back, when people were discussing methods of cheating and Mr White put forward the suggestion to hide notes in the toilet systern and request to be escorted to "relieve himself" midway through the exam?
Yes it was that ******* ****. Anyone know which uni he is going to? [Please, I so hope it ain't a medicine course or Oxbridge...Don't ask!]
Not Lord Huntroyde, sorry my lord

what about the oxford access scheme where does that stand?
"Oxbridge want the best students regardless of background or privelidge."

The access scheme is just a tool to break down misconceptions (for example when I was applying to uni I assumed that Oxbridge cost more so didn't bother applying - plus my school didn't have a copy of the prospectus's or any information about what the differences between normal uni and a collegiate system were etc etc - lot's of little things that were based on rumour not fact) and to make the place seem more welcoming to people from poorer/non-traditional background (I was lucky - my sister had gone to Wolverhampton uni the yr before so the UCAS form and funding forms didn't come as such a surprise...but still the jump of applying to Oxbridge seemed too intimidating - and to students who are dealing with UCAS/LEAs and all the rest of the waffle surrounding uni applications without any experience/help it must seem even more like something that is there for the rich kids and not for you).

Oxbridge doesn't have a problem attracting non-traditional students *once they've applied* the problems they have are in encouraging these students to apply in the first place - hence the outreach and access schemes...it's not about easy rides and a way for "thick" people to get into Oxbridge...it's about changing the image of the places in the minds of potential applicants when they first start to think about uni applications.

Oxbrdge look for ways to test social class, not intelligence, hence the compulsory interviews and entrance tests you are mentioning. If you really believe that Oxbridge use these tests to find the most intelligent then you must be stupidly gullible. They use them to weed out the working class reagrdless of intelligence. The interviews are used to judge class!

You must be extremely gullible if yuo think otherwise!
At Cambridge myself, crappy state comprehensive background - not so gullible really. If interviews test class not intelligence then why are the standards so high? They'd be doing their results no favours by taking unintelligent students just because they are from a favoured class.
