Norovirus - How to eat?

Hello I am infected with the Norovirus!!!

It started yesterday, anything I ate or drank I would just puke up within an hour :frown:

I went to the doctor and she told me that I have to take in fluids really gradually to avoid being sick. Drinking an ounce of water every 15 minutes and gradually drinking more.

Since doing so I haven't vomited (yay!) BUT before I die of starvation I need to have some food, the Doctor said I should start with soup only.

How can I eat soup however?! One spoonful every 15 minutes?? All in one go?? What do I do!!!

Don't drink it too fast; just take gradual spoonfuls. Take one at a time, and when you think that you can stomach the next one, take it.
Something that i usually end up having when i'm throwing up is flat coke and apples. (not together, though).

You don't want to eat Norovirus, not a good idea.

Thanks, yes I think I should slow down with the eating when I can sense a backlash!!!

What else can I start eating?

I heard that you are supposed to avoid dairy products which is a shame because I really want scrambled eggs!! :frown:
whats the norovirus? sounds like its from star trek or something

edit: just googled it, far less interesting than i thought :frown:

Dry toast and dry crackers. Take it very slow, have a bite, then see how you feel. And so on. Hope you feel better
There was a time when I thought that I had it and I only had toast with butter in very small nibbles then waited about half an hour. The half an hour wait was because I was being sick on cue at the end of every thirty minutes...like clockwork.

Anyway, I think it was Noro but could easily have been an awful hangover. Good luck.

Eggs aren't dairy products, fool.

If you're referring to the milk in scrambled eggs, make them without.

i thought i had this yesterday - ate breakfast, which then immediately came up again, but now i'm absolutely fine :s-smilie:
When i had this i drank water slowly and in small amounts. If your lips and mouth are dry you are risking becoming dehydrates so it could be worth getting some rehydration sachets - though coca cola is apparently pretty good as well.

You are more likely to die from dehydration that starvation, and the Norovirus should calm down withing 24-36 hours (when i had it anyway) thus allowing you to eat. Nausia (without vomiting) and diarrhoea may persist for a few days, as may any stomach cramps, fever, and aches associated with the virus.

As people have said, eat some dry toast to curb the hunger. When you have not been sick for a while try a small bowl of soup. Maybe try chicken or mushroom as these are not as rich as other types.

Finally, make sure you get plenty of rest!
Had it christmas day last year.. after about 18 hours after throw up #3 i attempted to eat. dont do it... i dont recommend coke either.. maybe because the carbonation on an empty stomach wont be too good .. try flat 7up with salt and pepper IF you can stomach it.. i not, stick to a little,.. lightly salted water

You're not going to starve. Chill out.

Start with juice if you really feel the need for something... If you really feel hungry, try dry toast...

Salted water isn't a great idea, as a balance between NaCl and Glucose is needed for sufficient uptake and subsequent rehydration.

Flat coke should allow this. But adding salt to flat 7up/Sprite would need care to get the levels right.

I think the biggest concern with this would be that it would taste awful.

LoL... i know that! Students are well experiences in all types of drinking. Just putting his worry about not eating into perspective... in a somewhat eccentric way maybe

You can think that at first but then you quickly realise it's really different - the feeling of nausea is completely different - the weird gassy crampy stomach - the vomiting getting WORSE rather than better and the diarrhoea. :O

I'm about 48hours after now and not sure what I want to eat. I'm not like before where literally I could only sip water and I'm definitely not my piggy self which can normally eat massive meaty meals :frown:
