Leeds Accom: Lyddon/ Ellerslie/ Charles Morris/ Devonshire

Hi, I'm gonna be applying for Leeds accom '09 and definitely want to be in catered, shared bathroom, preferably on campus.
The halls i've found with all of that are Lyddon, Charles Morris, and Ellerslie, and off campus there's Devonshire (I'm not interested in Bod: too far away)
Can anyone please tell me if they can see any obvious preference for one of the three on campus halls, or which is the most social? Or how far Devonshire is from campus and how most people travel to and from-- is it close enough to walk?

ALSO- this has been bugging me - do ALL rooms in ALL halls have a washbasin in- or are there only washbasins in certain halls?

Thanks!

I think every room will have at least a wash basin in it. Charles Morris is quite sociable, but the food is a bit rubbish so i've heard. In Devonshire the foods a bit better but the company is very rahish. From Dev it takes like 15-20 minutes to walk to uni in pretty much a straight line.

Charles Morris is a bit odd, basically everyone who got put in there this year has been moved out now cos there is renovation work going on. I'm not sure if it will be ready for when you starat uni though.

Personally I like Lyddon a lot, it's pretty old inside though but the rooms are very big and the bathrooms are meant to be good as well - the girl I know who lives there said she's never had trouble with waiting for the shower or toilet or anything. She also has a washbasin in her room and A LOT of storage space. Ellerslie I've heard is nicer than Lyddon but I've not seen it myself but it's meant to be amazing. Oh and ith Lyddon you should bear in mind that you might not get in the building but instead in one of the annexes which is basicall a large terraced house, I don't think it's as nice as the hall part. And all on-campus are really oversubscribed, it's likely that if you don't get a place in one you will just automatically be put in Boddington cos that happened to a few people I know, so just make sure you state on the application form somewhere where it might ask "other preferences" or whatever, NOT boddington.

Devonshire is very Rah.
I went to a friends in Ellerslie, and didnt think it seemed very social, but that could have just been her flat. I hear Lyddon's nice.

I'm so sick of everyone going on about Devonshire's 'rah-ness.' LOL

People are making out as though Leeds uni has grabbed a load of people who are 'rah' (which is quite a widely thrown around term these days) and have plonked them into Devonshire Hall. It's just not the case. There are definitely no such specifications on the kinds of people that certain halls acquire.

I was in Dev and I definitely wasn't a 'rah' but if you are seriously THAT concerned about the social background/fashion sense/origin of the people in your halls then maybe university isn't for you?

Just a thought.

That aside, Dev is a very pretty halls with loads of beautiful scenery etc. It's quiet but depends which area you are in. I was self-catered and it was ok although people in catered seemed to make more friends, simply because of the fact they ate together everyday.

Hmm...well I was in Dev last year and personally I think it lived up to its reputation. Obviously not everyone there is rah (though there are a hell of a lot of them swaggering about), but the atmosphere is just..boarding school. I literally felt like I was in boarding school. And this would explain why it DOES get more rahs than the other halls, because they love boarding school!
