Hmm.. decisions, decisions..
I looked around some of the accomodation yesterday on my open day...
Everyone i spoke to recommended Talybont South!
I think Talybont Court looks like it's going to be fab (at the mo, it's being built)
I really fancy being in brand new halls too.. Mmmm..
Talybont Court is going to be my 1st choice, with Talybont South as my second...

Talybont Court has everything i want..
En-suite, SC, Internet and is only a 15minute to the Uni..
Oh.. but no price guide!
xx

I have my own thread about this.

I seriously don't care that Uni Hall is soooo far away because I'm a desparent for a parking space. I will need to use my car on a regular basis to take my grandparents shopping, doctors, etc when my mum is in work/can't take them and that is the only reason I'm having lessons.

Ive just been looking through the booklet again and my list is:
1) Talybont South
2)Talybont North
3)Colum Hall
4) Talybont Court

Talybont South has everything I want, and although Talybont Court looks nice I dont wanna get a shock if ive put if down as first choice and its really expensive. Does anyone know is theres a site where you can see photos of the roomms themselves? I cant really tell from the booklet x x

Are you gonna be studying Pharmacy or Optometry?

I was gonna put Colum Hall as my first choice then I realised it's a good way to the nearest supermarket! Plus it's on Colum Road aka Rat Road, which is also really busy.

Yeah, I'll be studying optometry  . I didn't know Colum Hall was quite a way from a supermarket  That just changes everything!! So whats with the street? Is it dirty? Guess that's what I get for living in Canada

And of course, you don't want to put it down as your first choice, get a place there and then find out its not ready until October ish and end up in a place costing £15 a night until work is finished.

Though I suppose if it wasn't ready then won't allocate rooms for it.

In the residences booklet is says that smoking is generally not permitted, is this rule ignored?

Well, to be honest, you could probably walk through Talybont up to the big Tescos in about 20 minutes, which isn't really that long. But it will be on the way back when you're carrying several bags of heavy shopping, and more than likely, because it's Cardiff, it'll be raining.

The road isn't exactly what I'd call clean but the halls are. The thing I wouldn't like about living there is that it isn't really set back off the road so you're gonna get all the noise from the traffic (it's a main road) and all the noise from drunken students walking back up to Talybont at half 2 in the morning.

There really nice halls though apparently, and get filled up really quickly. I know of people who put it as their first choice but then ended up in Talybont (which is also really popular!)

Um no, unless you wanna annoy your flatmates by setting the smoke alarm off everytime you have a fag ... if you want one then you go outside generally ... or hang out of your window, providing you're not in a place where security will see you.

So then which halls would be closest to a supermarket? You brought up a very good point :frown:

in victoria halls you can smoke in your room and in the living room as long as your flatmates dont mind.

They are obviously expecting to finish Talybont Court in time for us starting, or it wouldn't be in the residents booklet..
They've still got about 6months to complete the work too.. seeing as most of the structural work has been done,
i can't see it being a problem...
I might try and ring cardiff and ask them for a rough quote on Talybont Court..
i'll give the details if i get an answer..

I have e-mailed cardiff about my parking problem just to see where they would recommend.

Talybont is right next to a massive Tesco Extra. Some of the other halls are near to places like Sainsbury's Central and Tesco Metro, but they're not very good for doing a proper shop. I'm not really sure what the situation is over uni hall.

Reply 35

uni hall has a big sainsburys about 15-20 minutes walk from it in one direction and an iceland/tesco metro about 15 minutes walk in another. Wouldn't fancy walking back up the hill carrying bags of shopping though

I've never been to uni hall, I feel deprived *LoL*. I hate that Tesco Metro on Albany Road, it's where I have to do most of my shopping this year. Luckily my friend's Mum takes us upto Tesco Extra quite often, which is heaven! Although I'd love to have an Asda nearer than out in the bay.

Yeah it's lush, but it's also about a grand extra compared with everywhere else. Nice if you've got rich parents though! How do you mean that it's much better for town and uni than most other halls? There's quite a few halls that are closer to uni and town than Victoria?

I was living in Talybont South which is really nice next to a park bla bla bla...Talybont North is next to Talybont South and Tesco, however, I consider it quite far from the city centre...isolated i may say. My boyfriend was living in Senghennydd Court, in an En-Suit room and I consider this the best solution since it is located in the city centre...you are close to everything..
