I need help please!
Don't have clue but if I were you I would just make sure that you can respond to any questions about your PS and try to broaden your knowledge on the world of science and oh yeah make sure that you know about anything important in the field of science that is happening now -- by that I mean check newspapers
Why does your profile say you're at Cambridge doing NatSci?

it says currently doing IB but I agree why does it say cambridge natsci
cam natsci is my first choice, i will change that to make it clearer,

Ok if you got into cambridge Natsci then you know what do for an interview why ask us
I know I'm very prepared now compared to my cam interview, but I wanted to know exactly what to expect.

I have applied to UCL for Natural sciences and am awaiting an invitation to interview, as I was told by them I got one by the adminssion tutor ( i checked by phone ). Please someone tell me what the hell would they expect from me!

>>>>>Is it an informal chat to get to know what you're like, after a day of walking around UCL? <<<<<<<<<

Or is it things like problem solving, talking about Pers Stat, etc???
Most probably:
'why did you choose the course?'
'tell me about your strengths'
'what would you choose as stream combination'

For reference:
Cam Robinson NatSci - interview done, waiting for decision
UCL Natsci Msc -
Nottingham Natsci Msc - cond
UEA Natsci Msc - cond
Lancaster Natsci Msci - cond
GCSE: 10 A*s 2As
A-level: AS french A
IB: HL Chem PHys Ma SL Engl Psy Jap predicted 777667+3 = 43

What are my chances?
How long is it?
Who will there be?
What do I do during the visit?
Help!
I'm gonna make sure I'm fully prepared, but the sooner and the more I know about it, the more of the important stuff I can prepare, and better chances I can get in.

UCL - here I come!!!

Oh so you didn't get into cambridge oh ok
No... just to reitterate: I don't know yet, but I don't think I got into cambridge, and so I would really really want an offer from UCL as a good insurance. I'd be happy to go there so I can't really mess up the interview, unless they base their admissions on other stuff, like grades (hopefully)

ok good luck I am going there for maths but I hope I don't see you there

lol because I hope you got to cambridge
Ha, that's interesting. My friend got pooled for NatSci and had an interview at Robinson's college today. I think you're competing over the same place.
As for your question, I don't know. I'm an arts student :P

Hi,
As a fellow IBer in the UK, I know that British uni's seem very much against the IB. Make sure you tell them how brilliant the course is and how much depth as well as breadth the course actually has.

As I grow up, I'm starting to understand more about the world, how life works, how human psychology works, etc... And this quest of realisation has given me the insight that if you want to be successful in life and don't want to stress over academia, you need to break away from that deleria with which authority is blinding you (IB organisation). In other words, the IB sucks and unis DO hate it, they DONT LOVE it.

Oh well,....

Anyway, UCL input as i originally intended would be great

cheers

hey.

im a first year natsci at ucl.
hopefully this isnt too late and you havent had your interview yet.

when i had my interview last year, it was quite informal.
i cant promise yours will be the same, but i should imagine it would be.
they split us into two groups, one did an interview while the other had a brief tour, then they switched round.

the interview was pretty easy.
they asked which area i wanted to be interviewed on (phys chem bio) a couple weeks before via mail, and then on the day there was a 1 on 1 interview with a lecturer from chosen dept.
all the 1 on 1 interviews take place at the same time in the same room, which helps you feel a bit more comfortable as your not so alone.

it was essentially just a casual chat about your subject, why you like it, and your personal statement.

the whole thing was over by lunch time, and according to the 2nd years at the time, it was essentially just a formality - you would get an offer as long as you were at least reasonably sane.

personally id take that with a pinch of salt, but as long as you know your personal statement and have something to talk about youll be fine.

you get a free mini buffet as well - the juice is good

also - wrt the IB - they may not prefer it, but i do know 3 peeps in my year who got in who did IB, so at the very least they dont totally reject it.

hope this has been some help. gimme a shout if you have any other questions, and gl with your interview.
I don't know when you're interview is but for anyone reading this topic who has theirs on the 29th January: Good luck!!!! and see you there

Thanks daedalus

I'm still really confused by the interview!!! If it's a one on one, why do they do it in the same room at the same time? Is it a very big room? You don't actually sit with the group and the interviewer asks each of you Qs one by one?!!! There is one interviewer for each applicant, right?

I will probably choose chemistry for my interview, even though I like equally phys and bio, i feel chem is somthing common to both and very interesting. I will tell them I may choose either MedPhys and Brain or Atomic and Biochem or PhysChem and Biochem.

I assume they will ask me 'why did you do the course?', tell me about this book you read, 'why UCL?', solve this problem, etc.... which i'm prepared for :-)

Should I expect it to be 20-30mins...

Let me know what you think
Also, I forgot to say: Does it actually make a difference when you reply for the interview, :sigh: :sigh: :shifty: which area you choose you want to be tested on? If I say I have no preference, I could go in more breadth about natsci:rolleyes: , although choosing chem will help to know what's coming:biggrin: , it shouldn't raise eyebrows:eyeball: as chem is my best science at IB and the streams i'd choose would be related... even physical and life sciences.

For ref, my interview is on 5th feb. 12 - 14 - talks, visits, 14 - 15.30 tours and interview, 15.30 closing Qs - should I expect about 20 students????,
I there's 50 places, and apparently a 1 in 10 chance, then there must be 500 applicants, in the ten weeks of interviewing, each thurs, that's 50 per week - 50 in 1.30 hour???? - or 20??? - weird
actually dont worry about it too much, but im just stressing for no reason because NatSci UCL is so promising and exciting..lol..:biggrin:   :s-smilie:
