due to personal circumstances i left school at the beginning of year 10 and only got 3 gcses at c later that year

im predicted all as in a level despite this...does anyone know if the progression will work in my favour...or will the lack of gcse results be too detrimental?

google couldnt answer....so fort id ask if anyone here knows.

I think if you're doing well at A level, you should be okay... but what were your GCSEs? Some universities require that you have Maths / English / Science GCSEs at grade C or above.

You only need to make one thread about this.

Provided you have the AS/A Levels, and explain why you've only got three GCSEs, it should all be fine. You should contact the admissions office of the places you're thinking of applying to and ask them if they require certain GCSEs. If they do, and you haven't got them, ask them to consider your circumstances and see if they can't bend the rules a little. Even if they don't, it's worth trying.

A lot of Universities ask that you have at least grade C in Maths and English (and sometimes Science, depending on your chosen degree) so you should be OK.

It'd probably be wise to get it mentioned in your reference (it usually carries more weight when its there - and leaves you room in your personal statement to talk about what's more relevant) when the time comes to do your UCAS. Admissions tutors aren't robots and if they can see your A-level grades are expected to be good, you should be okay. In any event, contact admissions tutors for the unis youre interested in and see what they think is the best plan.

i think you need to put that in your statement. but to be honest top unis might find your ability doubtful. why don't you sit for them again?
it really depends on tutors but if i were a tutor i would pick a candidate with good A level and gcse results. gcse is not even hard. you should sit for it that's what i did.

you shouldnt worry! my boyfriend only got one G.C.S.E in art and that was a C! he had the abilty to do better.. but he was just a fool at school >.>
but he went to college and did health and social and i cant remember exactly what he got for that but they were adequate result, but he wasnt fond of that course much, he only did it so he would be able to take music tech in another college.
and he completed that 2 year course with 3 distinctions! and with a really good, thought out personal statement. every place hes applied for have given him offers! all they want is for him to audition and he'll get in!
so yeah, alot of places know not everyone has great gcse's and they dont really look at them all that much depending on what your doing. its the A Levels/ BTEC National diplomas etc that they focus on since that shows how much you've improved up to now.
just show yourself off in your personal statement and let them know that even without the needed GCSE grades you still feel you are very suitable for the course

Can we be a little more precise? Oxbridge, UL, St Andrews, Warwick, Durham, etc?

Reply 18

well dependant on as results im aiming for oxbridge/durham with exeter a probable choice.

Reply 19

Oxbridge will understand the GCSE situation better than Durham; Durham, no doubt, will give you a rejection almost instantly. You should ring all the universities you are applying to to explain the situation and ask whether it's worth applying.
