If you were left with that decision, which would you choose just out of interest

city or soas

tough call, probably not Brunel as they specialise more in engineering.
I don't know anyone that goes to/ went to City or SOAS and the poeple I know at Queen Marys are loving it, so probably go there myself.

You should look into the descriptions of the courses. Economics at City has a different focus than at Soas.
I dont think that there is actually much difference in all 4 choices and even though no one has selected Brunel, its not a bad uni. Your decision can be simply on which place you prefer, but i would have either City or Brunel.

c'mon people vote damn it! ...please

SOAS is really diff! You do a lot of oil markets etc cos of the middle east and how their economies are diff
Reply 7
SOAS! The course is totally unique. It is easily the most reputable of the four, too

Soas!!

SOAS followed by queen mary

Has anyone had a look at the new social science building at City? http://www.city.ac.uk/social/ - Looks pretty good from the pics, anyone been inside or know more about the department?

Also out of the 4 which would be better in terms of career prospects after uni?

First of all, SOAS has the best reputation out of all of them. And it has great career prospects. But you need to know that SOAS is specialist in Development Economics, and regional specialisation in Africa and Asia and the Middle East. So if you are not interested in these areas, there is not much point in going! For career prospects, SOAS is one of the best places in the country if you want to go into development or regional specialisation, but if you don't then Queen Mary or Brunel might be just as good.

SOAS has the best rep, but it is a very specialised degree with focus on the Middle East and if you don't want to do that don't go (as Rochey said). City is a good economics course, and I know somebody at QM who is enjoying it but I don't think the course is as well recognised. I'd say either City or SOAS depending on your economic interests.

brunel do a sandwich degree and is best for career prospects
Id give best reputation to QM
the worst for eco goes to SOAS
CITY is avg.

BEST content goes to QM

Basically, the stuff u learn at QM is quite simialar to stuff u learn at UCL.
So QM it is for me.
Most people have already explained the differences so I'll just say my order of choice.

1.) SOAS
2.) Queen Mary
3.) City
4.) Brunel

For career prospects, amount of stuff you'll actually learn, intelligence and commitment of other students, atmosphere at uni: soas wins by about a zillion miles.
city is ok but the uni has a dire feel to it, and people who study there tend to be extremely tedious and stupid.
queen mary, bit bigger and better than city overall, but probably not as good for economics. however, decidely second-rate, nothing distinguishing it.
brunel: don't even think about it.
