Model/Promo work - Simply stated, should I quit?

Heyhey, this is gonna be a sensitive thread, so please be nice here

Anyways, where to start? Well currently I'm looking for a medical reception job to support myself thru uni, but it's annoying coz of how many hours they want you to work (at least 15, and I'm at uni for like 18 hours of the week). So atm I'm working for a promo/model agency. I got asked to become one last year and didn't think anything of it until recently...

2 problems.

1. They won't pay until at least 2/3 months after I've done a shift, no matter how much I've earnt for the assignment.

2. This one's more sensitive - apparently I'm just not good enough. I stand at only 172cm or a little over 5'7, so maybe I'm too short?

Also a girl that I know (but don't like, ex-housemate, long story lol  :p:  ) behind my back has recently said that she doesn't understand why I do model/promo work as my face is too unattractive and I'm too fat/curvy - "she shouldn't have hips or breasts rarara"

Thus I'm wondering. It could be her  But maybe she's right ? Judging by my pics, do you think it's feasible for me to continue doing promo work until I find a better paying job (or finish uni for that matter), or maybe she's right - perhaps I should quit and do waitressing instead or something.

Just a thought,

BTW there's a poll

If she's making those kind of comments, she's probably just jealous! If you're doing well from the promo work, then I say keep at it. If you feel you could be earning more money elsewhere, or you think it's a more reliable income, then perhaps look for something else. However, taking into account hours and stuff, as long as you reckon the work's going ok, I'd stick with the promo stuff! Don't take any notice of her daft comments!

Re: your height: I believe Kate Moss is below the required height (5' 8") . I think she is 5' 6".

This sounds like a classic case of envy.

Hey thanks Create  Yeah this girl's from the Gold Coast originally and people there do tend to be quite superficial it's really sad, but she was ridiculous! They can't be that bad up there!

She was a classmate of a friend of mine and last year we all decided to rent a house together, but seriously - we had the biggest personality clash which is why, to be honest, I think she said those comments  Because she's just mad at me for the reason that me and the OTHER housemate got along better, and we hung out, while she was always left out! :p: Believe me, she left in a huff, and was quite dramatic! Like an episode of Neighbours or something.

Anyway she's at a different uni than me, thankgod!

It's OK, I think. I mean I worked all weekend and it's not difficult work with great pay... however it'd be better if they paid me on time, instead of me having to wait like 3 or 4 months just for them to send me the cheques lol. I have a friend in the same agency who's just left because of this, so no, it's not only that comment by the ex-housemate who's made me feel this way.

I got asked to become one last year
By a talent scout? Therefore, technically if this is the case, then by rights it is feasible, like you said, to be a model.

Wow! Really does sound quite the drama! Such a shame when people get like that for petty reasons like that. Ah well, at least you don't have to live with her anymore. Definitely sounds like a case of the green-eyed monster and some aggrievances she hasn't got rid of yet! Don't worry too much about it I reckon.

Yeah, I see your point that it takes a while for the cheques to clear, but at least when you've done the work, it is guaranteed money.... it's just a case of when you get it... hmm. I can see why it may be a bit of a problem though. *thinks*

i really don't mean to seem rude, but are you after an ego boost here? if you've been asked to model, then obviously you're good enough. i can't see how anything anyone says on here will help you come to a decision.
good luck with whatever decision you do come to though!
Judging by your pictures you are good looking, but it just seems to me that you are a bit over-obsessed with your looks and on this forum craving the attention...and just asking for peeps to heap praise on you and keep helping confirm what you already know, which is a bit arrogant. You're good looking, and im sure there are many more out at sea, this 'looks' búllshit is a bit too prima donna-ish.
well "good looking" is subjective. But i'm ditto with va-va-voom - i can smell arrogance, thats a turn off to many people - i expect you to come on and reply to this post but thats how it comes across, which you will naturally argue against. I don't know if this is you, but arrogance like this is a real turn off for alot of people, so your looks would count for jáckshit as the end of it all - us blokes aren't after looks 24/7 - life doesnt work like that - and to put up with a self-obsessed, ego-maniac would kill me.
Surely promo/modelling would be better than waitressing in terms of pay?
So in those terms, even if you are not going to contine modelling it would be better than waitresssing where there isn't really a ladder to climb.
Can you ask someone in the modelling/promo business if you have the looks to continue? Preferably someone objective, if that's possible.

If you enjoy it then you definately should. Judging from your pic (although i cant see it very well) you seem perfectly good looking for the job and should not let someone else's bitterness get you down. At the end of the day it boils down to your hapiness. If you want to do it, you do it.

Calm down!
She's asking about modelling work, not about getting a boyfriend so even if she is arrogant (which I don't think she comes across as at all) it really doesn't matter.

danni...u r definately pretty enough and what about kate moss...she wasnt "tall enough" either ... as for this girl, she's probably just jealous that she wasnt recruited! and the whole payment thing, while it might be hard now, in a couple of months it will pay off ... big time, plus by then your portfolio will be improved and then u will definately reap the benefits!

you are right kokopops, the movement into the modelling world opens so many doors. If you get your education and also have opportunities in the fashion business you leave yourself with a generous amount of decent options.

It doesn't seem like you have much interest in modelling as a "career". You're on the way through uni, so funding that is your priority. If the modelling people aren't paying you, leave and do something you will get paid for.

Depends what kind of modelling...supermodels do tend to be lith lean and more flat chested i guess...but theres loads of kinds of models that aint!!
