Model/Promo work - Simply stated, should I quit?

Definitely option #3 hun  They wouldn't have asked you in the first place if they didn't think you were "good enough", would they?

Maybe they don't want you because you're too nice  (sorry, no offence to any other models out there, but it seems like a pretty bitchy industry)
Sorry, i'd better apologise - my comments before were very harsh. I don't think you need confirmation from here though, personally I think you are very attractive, so you shouldn't have any worries. Use your strengths at the end of the day - if you feel you can use your looks then do so. Good luck!

Heyhey, this is gonna be a sensitive thread, so please be nice here

Anyways, where to start? Well currently I'm looking for a medical reception job to support myself thru uni, but it's annoying coz of how many hours they want you to work (at least 15, and I'm at uni for like 18 hours of the week). So atm I'm working for a promo/model agency. I got asked to become one last year and didn't think anything of it until recently...

2 problems.

1. They won't pay until at least 2/3 months after I've done a shift, no matter how much I've earnt for the assignment.

2. This one's more sensitive - apparently I'm just not good enough. I stand at only 172cm or a little over 5'7, so maybe I'm too short?

Also a girl that I know (but don't like, ex-housemate, long story lol  :p:  ) behind my back has recently said that she doesn't understand why I do model/promo work as my face is too unattractive and I'm too fat/curvy - "she shouldn't have hips or breasts rarara"

Thus I'm wondering. It could be her  But maybe she's right ? Judging by my pics, do you think it's feasible for me to continue doing promo work until I find a better paying job (or finish uni for that matter), or maybe she's right - perhaps I should quit and do waitressing instead or something.

Just a thought,

BTW there's a poll

arghhhh - i worded the above poorly - i think you are attractive, but because "i" said that, it doesn't mean im the one to judge and say "you are" or "you aren't" Sorry lol - my comments above could be taken like that, making me sound arrogant which im not -this message is just to avoid that misinterpretation.

Thanks.

At the end of the day it has to be your own decision, but whatever you do don't stop doing it because of what this girl has been saying. Fair enough about not being paid (that is quite bad - but as long as you get paid in the end then at least you are). But this girl is obviously just jealous of you. You are gorgeous and don't listen to her awful comments, you obviously make a good model otherwise you wouldn't be doing it in the first place. Curves are good hun and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. From your pics you are really pretty, with a figure most girls would do anything for - so if you enhoy modelling then definately don't give it up!

Hope you are ok.

okay, so have you applied to other agencies, and have you have shown your portfolio to lots of people in the industry?

one agency isn't the be all end all, if one is pissing you off apply somewhere else... i dont think its a carpet policy across the industry look about before you think about giving up.

And as far as that person goes, what does she know about modelling? If you get a fair bit of work, and the agency took you on in the first place then there is no reason to worry.

Hi again,

thanks guys so much for your honesty - I needed that as I don't think that would've happened in real life, if you know what I mean lol! And wizard it's fine! Even your first post was ok - I think it's great that you said what was on your mind  All of you rock :elefant:

But anyway as we speak (or type/read heh), I'm keenly looking for a Medical Receptionist position as it would firstly give me much needed experience in the health care industry (I'm studying psych/biology at uni and have plans of moving into health when I finish my degree) which would be fantastic, and secondly they would actually pay me on time! :p: Instead of having to wait practically half a year

Also I know deep down I dislike all that superficial crap that comes with the promotional/model industry raa! LOL, so as soon as I can get myself safely into another job, I'm leaving

I spoke to my friend about it today, and she's gonna help me, so all will be good.

Um... now back to the uni course work for me

LOL.

You're very attractive, and you know you are. You're quite comfortably 'good enough' to model, and i'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find a decent agency that'll take care of you.

At the end of the day, i advise you to do whatever you'd be more happier with. As you said it's only to fund you through uni, so it's not as if it's for the rest of your life, so what would you be happier doing?

I hope that was aimed at Danni, and not me.

I'm not into that sort of thing, i'm afraid. I'd suggest PM'ing AFI instead.

It's OK, I think. I mean I worked all weekend and it's not difficult work with great pay... however it'd be better if they paid me on time, instead of me having to wait like 3 or 4 months just for them to send me the cheques lol. I have a friend in the same agency who's just left because of this, so no, it's not only that comment by the ex-housemate who's made me feel this way.

a girl called me chunky the other day in class.....

the shocking thing is; I RUN ON AVERAGE 7 miles a day..

dont let the flatmate make you feel like crap.

but to answer YOUR question about height, in the USA you must be a minimum of 5'10.

i don't fancy your face personally though
 what do you mean by that? She's got a very pretty face, I would've thought anyway. But I tend not to look at bodies being a girl and all  however I can see that she's pretty!

Sounds like me a couple of months back... only the job I had back then was slightly a lot worse than model/promo work :p:

Yep she does have a very pretty face, and also a gorgeous figure (I don't mind looking at bodies lol and no I'm not a lesbian - I just don't feel uncomfortable looking at women's bodies to look at their figure - maybe that's due to having a close sister? I dunno!)

     Seems to me that, That girl is incredibly envious of you, You are in no way Unnactractive *Wishes she was as good looking as Danni_Bella* :frown: .

If you enjoy the modelling work then keep it up, However if you need the money then a more secure job is probably the best way to go!
