As rah/sloaney as you want it to be...
I know two people who go there that are in no way rah/sloaney and they say its brilliant so I'm guessing not very..

My best friend goes to Edinburgh, she is in no way rah/sloaney ... and neither are any of the people she's encountered so far. She's the least rah-ish person I know.

i'd say fairly/quite

Manchester, on the other hand...

Would you guys say it is more/less rah/sloaney than UCL?
i didnt think it was...
Reply 8
fairly...but not oxbridge
hahaha well I've never heard 'Sloaney' as a word to describe the Scottish! Do you mean students that have come up from the South? The Scottish are generally very down to earth and friendly despite the stereotypes.
If you want 'rah' and 'sloaney' you should have sat where I was on the train to Bristol. There were two girls behind me - never heard anything like it in my life. Think Peaches Geldof crossed with Grace from Big Brother a while back. OHMYGOD they were sooooo annoying!!!
They were saying a girl they knew was 'underprivileged' because she'd never been to Singapore. Dahhling.

Nah it is quite a long way for the southerners to travel to get there :P

my friend goes there and she summarised it to say:
rich smart kids go to oxbridge
rich smart kids that don't get into oxbridge go to st andrews
rich kids that don't get into st andrews go to edinburgh
and the scottish guys go to glasgow

not sure if it's true but that was her observation

if i end up at uni there i shall test her theory

I'm familiar with the term 'rah' ... but what is a 'sloaney'?
Reply 13
I do indeed mean the southern contingent - I think Scottish and Rah/Sloaney is a bit of an oxymoron.

The term Sloane Ranger (plurals: Sloanes, Sloanies) refers to the young, upper class and upper-middle-class men and women living in South-West London. The word play term combines "Sloane Square", the fashionable and wealthy London area associated most in the public imagination with "Sloanes", and the television cowboy character "The Lone Ranger".
