Changing my course after the first semester

Hello all,
I am currently in my first year doing combined honours, Music and Film Studies, but I've realised a little too late that I don't want to do Film, and take a different subject. Do you think this would be possible this year? It's not yet half the year and maybe there would still be a way to catch up. I don't want to have to start the first year again, and redo the whole Music program while starting a new course.
Does anyone know if it would be possible, some people start in January, although I know it's not the same as I started in September, but maybe there's a way to catch up that way.
Please give me some feedback on what you think and your experiences. THank you.

I once tried to transfer at this time to a different course, but they said it would take too much catching up, especially with all the coursework involved. The only way I could transfer is if I started again in September.

But did they still say it would be possible, even if it meant having to catch up like crazy??

Nope.

I transferred from German and History to Theology - I asked about it after the first semester but since I hadn't done any Theology modules I had to finish the year in German/History and restart in September (which I did). However a girl on my course wanted to switch to History, and they let her do so without retaking a year, she just had to catch up on some core first year modules in second year instead of taking subsids. Sounds to me like you might be able to switch straight away, but you need to ask your tutor about it soon.

Oh that would be great. I need to ask the tutor of the course I want to leave? (she's gonna kill me , I'm the best student in the class) I really hope it's possible, don't want to have a wasted year.

Do you have a personal tutor, someone who you can go to with general concerns or issues? If so I'd see them first.

I have the same issue.

I would really like to switch from Product Design BA to English Language which i was originally accepted into at four university's in september (including the one i am at right now). I now realise i shouldn't have changed my mind on results day.

any advice on changing from Product design to English language at my current university? (and catching up before september)

Thank you.

Your unlikely to be able to switch now- you'll have to wait until September as the courses are too different. If you want to stay at your current university you should just be able to complete a form to change your course and start again in September without the faff of UCAS but do contact your personal tutor first.
