NiceCupOfTeaAndASitDown.com doesn't even address the issue of the fig roll, which is rather disappointing. The webmasters assume that we will sit back and accept that it is a biscuit without even questioning the matter - perhaps they are right.

More information about fig rolls and where to purchse the perfect specimen:

    http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com/biscuits/fig/
Yet on that site a taste reviewer said:
    Andrew
Status Enthusiastic Full time biscuit eater, Andrew has a great deal of experience with most biscuits
    Asda Figgy
Jacobs Thin crunchy, not enough fig
Newtons Soft, nice smell, fig rolls for adults! Citrusy
Figolu Chewy but biscuit is very crispy, more like a cracker, disintegrating leaving the fig almost intact
Crawfords Big flat tasty crispy. Big fig flavour
    Sainsbury's Meaty yet cakey
That would imply they are a cake. htye are also of a soft crust, something a biscuit doesn't have. Does anyone know how the stale - I though they wnet hard like a cake.

I would say not. A fig roll is not a biscuit as:
It doesn't get soggy when it’s gone stale - a biscuit does
It can't be dunked in tea and enjoyed
A jaffa cake is similar and is a cake, not a biscuit.

I would say that they are a miscellaneous pastry fancy- not a biscuit.

I imagine that because fig rolls aren't chocolate covered there isn't a tax incentive in getting it officially designated a cake (it's VAT free whether it's a biscuit or a cake).
