I suppose they stick the needle into you then what is inside the needle, will be inside you.. Anyway all things like the pill and stuff seems like too much of a hassle, why not just use a condom.

same way as the pill basically, they inject progesterone into the muscle from which it is slowly released over the next 2/3 months (2 or 3 depending on the makers)
Y9ou need to have already successfully taken the pill before you can use injection (as some people have bad side effects with the pill - remember you would have to put up with these with the injection for 3 months!)
Is made ineffective/less effective by same things as pill - so antibiotics and some medication.

-condoms are less effective
-condoms can be a hassle (if you are in a commited relationship anyway. am not advocating unprotected procreational sex)

I've been taking the pill fine for nearly a year, no side affects, so i should be able to get the injection?

Does it hurt to get it done? I'm not exactly a big fan of injections, in fact I hate them, probably a lot more than most people. Would the pain be worth 3 months of not having to take the pill? Doesn't it stop your periods or something too? And last for about 9 months, but needs topping up every 3 months?

i never took the pill before and had my surgery at home and my surgery up here willing to give it to me without being on the pill (i never had it done at home cos i never got round to it so had to go see the doctor about it up here)

i also got told that antibiotics wouldn't effect my pill (i've had a couple of courses prescribed by different doctors since being on it)...as far as i'm aware the main type of injection is the depo provera (i actually don't know any other types at all)

it last about 12 weeks and will usually completely stop your periods. i think it's amazing, but some people do get side effects (i had none), you can gain weight and you can also have a bit of extra bleeding (not a period as such tho)

it only last 3 months! i just looked at the leaflet that came with mine and there have been examples of people who got pregnant within a month of stopping it.

also when i missed my injection the surgery made me do a pregnancy test before they would let me have my next one

and as for the injection itself, they do it in the top of your bum becaus eit is quite a big one (although i've never actually looked at it). the seconds slight pain is worth 3 months hassle free imo.

thats quite unusual, i would go so far as a bit reckless of them to give you the injection without a trial on the pill first, because some people get really bad headaches when on the pill, and if you have injection then there is no way to stop them till it runs out (3months down the line)

If you're fine on the pill then you'll probably love the injection. One injection in the top right hand side of your right buttcheek (so as to miss the sciatic nerve) - its almost your lower back really, and you then have no/vvvvvv small pregnancy risk for 3 months. You have to get reinjected every 3 months (think like with the pill its prob best to allow a menstruation between injections).

The injection really does last 3 months tho - you can't be thinking that you are protected at 3 months 6 days.

And remember it only protects against pregnancy - not STDs!

(sounds obvious but you'd be surprised how many people ignore that!)

i don't think so. i know a lot of people who've been prescribed it without being on the pill (i never actually requested the injection the first time, i just said i wanted contraception and i'm far too scatty for the pill), i'd also discussed it with the practice nurse from the surgery i used to work at and she didn't seem to think it would be a problem. and the fact there was 2 differebnt doctors (at different surgeries) who were willing to give it to me. from what friends have told me, most people seem to get different side effects on the pill to the injection.

it can be either butt cheek (my nurse likes to alternate but i can never remember which side i last had it in!)

nooooo!!!! if anything you can get it slightly early (anything between week 11 upto 13) i got told by my nurse for letting mine laspe last tinme (it was christmas, i was at home and was lazy); i went very homronal because i'd come off it, i got stomach cramps, bleeding (but not a proper period) and had to do a pregnancy test before they'd give me another one. definately would not recomend it!

I had bad experiences with the Pill, and when I decided I couldn't take it any more they suggested I had the injection instead. They're 2 totally different things, so you don't need to try the Pill first.

what a turn on
I was on the injection for a year and a half, and came off it at Christmas. I'm a big fan of it - I didn't get my period for the entire time, and it still hasn't come back. But I know people who have bled for pretty much the entire time that they've been on it (needless to say they didn't go back for another injection). I only came off mine because it was strange not having my period for such a long time, and people keep hissing in my ear about how it'll give me cancer and make me infertile.

I'm currently on the pill, but anyone have information about the contraceptive injection?
