I shared with 6 and that was fine. I'd say the ideal is probably around that number, depends on how messy your housemates are though! I lived with 5 guys (i'm female) and was constantly cleaning up after their mess!

I don't think I'd like that! I get on well with guys but I'd want at least one other female just to balance things out!

The benefits of living in college...you don't have to see anyone if you don't want to. And you can see lots of people if you do.

Yeah sometimes it was a bit irritating, but there are a few advantages to living in a house full of guys:
1) The bathroom was always free
2) There was never any bitchiness/arguing
3) I knew nobody was going to steal my shampoo
4) My clothes never mysteriously disappeared from my wardrobe and ended up in other people's rooms
5) There was a house full of girls next door so it was easy enough to get away from the guys if I needed to!

Yeah I think I'd actually prefer that to just being in a flat with only girls. I tend to get on better with guys anyway. But I think a good mix would be nice .

Haha, good point...although 4 out of my 5 housemates had girlfriends. Funnily enough the guys always threatened to sneak into my room and steal my knickers!

I would say 7-8 in the first year cause i live with 5 at the moment and 2 are international so I don't see them very often and that only leaves 2 other people to hang out with.

This is a question aimed at people who were in self-catering flats for their first year at uni? What would you say is the ideal number of people to share with. Bearing in mind that you're sharing a kitchen. I'm trying to decide my accomodation for nex year and was just wondering

I shared with four in self catering---to be totally honest, it was a night mare, they pissed me off, were loud at night etc, found them immature....you are best of with one other, or make sure the people are and you get on well, ie they positively impact yuor life, not negatively

I was in 10 people flats - 3 were international students, and out of the rest of us 5 were girls and 2 were boys, so we didn't have the best mix. But never any problems in the kitchen, if you don't cook together you find people cook at different times anyway so you usually don't have to wait, but it can get a bit hectic at dinner time but its all good fun!

I think 4-6, as long as there are more people next door
There was 8 of us in our flat last year, I didn't find sharing a kitchen with 8 other people a problem really. I don't ever think there was a time when all 8 of us were in there at the same time trying to cook and even when there were 3/4 of us cooking at the same time it was okay cause we had two ovens and a microwave.

theres 4 in my flat ... with 3 other flats on the same floor ... two of boys and two of girls ... so in all sense i live with 17 other people ... which is cool ... can be alone but always some1 to talk 2
