Do we have an obligation to give our seats to old/pregnant people?

How do you know if someone needs a seat more though? Youngsters might typically be more able but children work hard in their own ways and it is possible for them to get tired too. Not to mention that they may want to seat because they need to get somewhere an hour away while the elders need the seat for only 3 stops. But if they give up their seat, the children need to stand for an hour. Is it fair? Is 1 hour of a child's exhaustion worth less than an elderly's physical inability for 10 minutes? Is it worth more?

They can stand for those three stops?

How do you know if someone is pregnant or just fat, whether they are old or just spent too long in the sun?

I’ve had old people give me filthy looks for a) sitting in the priority seats- I was even assaulted by one who deliberately hit me around the head with his shopping bag; and b) refusing to move.
Yes I am young (ish- I’m in my 30’s) but I am also physically disabled and I use crutches or a rollator walker both of which are very visible!

Old people are demi gods. Mothers are sacred as well, provided they aren't single mothers.

How do you know they're single?

Reply 66

It's just common decency, if you're able to stand easily you should want to give up your seat to someone who cannot.

I don't think it should be law, but it should definitely be more encouraged. I agree that it is quite disgusting to see older people standing when younger ones have seats...

Yeah I agree, it should be more social ettiquette and being polite rather than having it be a law. I get what OP is saying though. Honestly, I'm guilty of this myself and it's not even on purpose. Sometimes I genuinely just don't realise that there's an elderly person who's wanting to sit down.. :h:

Encouraging people is a good idea and I've definitely seen signs mentioning this issue on trains and buses recently. I try to give my seat up when I can but at the same time I have medical issues which mean sometimes I need a seat.

So the young people if they had to stand do you think we just run on batteries and don't get tired we do btw
