Girls: Ingrown hairs in "that area" help!

Anon please, this is embarrassing!

Bascially I've always been one for liking my "bits" to be nice and tidy. I got waxed every month for a couple of years but then found myself a bit short of money and decided to just switch to shaving. Since then I've been getting the WORST ingrown hairs, like little red bumps that sometimes get inflamed. I even went for an STD check to make sure it wasn't anything else but the nurse just told me it was ingrown hairs and I should tweezer them out, let my hair grow and exfoliate regularly.

I've been following her advice but they still aren't going away and some of them seem to be leaving small dark red scars. It's really embarrassing. I'm scared boys will think I have some kind of disease and I hate not being able to shave.

Anyone else get this/know how in the world to get rid of them?

And boys: if a girl told you that's what it was would you believe her or would you run a mile thinking she was absolutely ridden?

I don't really know anyway of getting rid of them but I wanted you to know you're not alone. I get them too and it's horrible.

Have you tried using Veet or something instead of shaving? Not as cheap as shaving, but not as expensive as waxing. Aloe and other ingredients keep the area moisturised while it works, and you don't have to do it as much as shaving.

Thanks, it's good to know I'm not alone, from speaking to mates (only close ones obviously) about it it seems to be a really common problem so I'm surprised we never hear more about how to stop them, its a nightmare!

I did try veet once and it got rid of the hair alright, but the red marks are still there. I know it might be a case of just waiting for them to fade but I've been waiting about six months and only noticed a very small difference. Do you think that cream for scars would make them go away?
It depends on how bad they are but I doubt boys would think your contageous, if they're educated enough on the matter  I thought this was pretty common? I've noticed the same thing before anyway with my ex.
Lots of shaving gel? Don't shave the same area once? Sharp razor?

Also... Not that I get them there, but the ones on my knees, I just squeeze like a spot!

And it didn't bother you? That's a relief.
I just hate the fact that 90% of young guys experience of seeing women's bits is from porn so they expect all girls to be perfectly smooth and pristine. In reality lots are far from it... it's such a pain.
you can get creams to slow down hair growth, and stop in grown hairs....i use it after waxing, but tbh i dont see why you couldnt use it after shaving

get it from boots with all the hair removal products such as veet etc

I'm your venus, your desire :yeah:
I use a "Seiko Cleancut" electric which is really good. Really tidy, smooth, and no ingrown hairs with it.

Also wanted to say not to worry - if anybody knows about the perils of shaving, it's men!!
as a lad id believe her, it happens to us too

Yeah, I was thinking of investing in an electric razor, my flatmate (who's a guy) must already think I'm insane with the number of razors and shavegels I have in the bathroom, might as well take it to the next level...

Can you have a hot bath or anything when you shower? I find that helps. Otherwise, use the shower head, and just keep the water hot!

And whatever you do, don't epilate. Oh God, the pain. And the ingrown hairs... *shudder*
If you only got them since you started shaving you cold get cold wax and do it yourself... I get them on my legs and i just squeeze them - they dont scar but ... I also read somewhere that you should exfoliate them, not squeeze them on bikini line cos they could get infected : )

Bizzarely I've never had them on my legs at all (small mercies I suppose)...
i got them before, really bad, huge lumps very painful and even pussy!! i never could have thought it was ingrown hairs but went to the doctor twice and they assured me it was..she said using dry sea salt to exfoliate!! havent tried it though...but thats what the dr said helps prevent it!
Pics needed as evidence.
