SOAS does have a good reputation for languages, however as you said Oxbridge is Oxbridge and i'd definately rather go there.

Neither Oxford nor Cambridge does Islamic Studies, although they both do Oriental Studies which may contain aspects of Islamic Studies within it.

i'm not sure about the oxford course, but you can tailor an oriental studies course in cambridge so that you're just doing islamic studies. it's just called oriental studies so that they can offer you a greater flexibility.

anyway, both cambridge and soas are great for islamic studies. if you want a government job i would go for cambridge but i doubt you'd be grossly disadvantaged if you went to SOAS as it's hugely respected too and just the fact that you're doing islamic studies will make you very employable right now. besides, it's not like you can't apply to both.

I agree. I would definitely go for Cambridge though. You might decide to change jobs. It just has such a fantastic reputation
Plus you can actually apply, but with Cambridge you may not even get an offer, so its best to think about it when your in the position to choose.
Oxbridge would give you better all round prospects.

i know someone who's been accepted for moroccan studies with arabic at oxford but i'm not sure if that's the title of the course or whether they're tweeking the oriental studies course. But besides, if your grades are competative just go for oxford (they get hardly any applicants for that subject and it's got a better rep  ). Good luck!

You mean Oriental Studies? How do you know this, each is different? I think Queens specialises in Egyptology.......
