I've been working there for just over a year and a half and I (mostly) love it. I worked for New Look previously and they were completely different experiences. H&M take the running of their stores a LOT more seriously.. with visual, on tills, everything really. There's a lot to take in at first, and training goes on for months! It's easy to be intimidated by it all - I know most of the staff in my place were!

The pay is very decent - I'm on £6.36 an hour, which is brilliant for where I live. As a company they're very organised; we get weekly shop infos which tell us what products and areas are selling well, what stock needs pushed etc. If you've got a problem managers are really professional. They can be a bit inflexible with getting hours changed though.

You are expected to know and keep up with top selling orders and top priority products, know the colour-ways etc. I've only worked in 2 shops before H&M but it's much more demanding then I experienced in either of them! A lot of the time (in my store anyway) people tend to be left in a department on their own which can be pretty hectic and boring with no one really to talk to. There are a lot of ways you can progress, admin, visual, managers etc but not as many opportunities as some other shops I don't think, because H&M don't have supervisors. They just have a manager for each department/floor and then a store manager.

Hmm what else.. I think that's it really! Go for it, in my experience it's more challenging than most retailers but it's worth it - I wouldn't leave! Have you had your interview yet?

Thanks! I haven't applied yet, I was thinking of applying when jobs came up because in my local store advertise. I might leave a cv with them. The only problem is, I have retaile experience but it's not in fashion, I worked with cameras, but I LOVE fashion and H&M is my favourite shop. I think I might write a covering letter... hmm, any tips to get me noticed?

I've been there 4 months and HATE it.

Most of the staff are backstabbers and very bitchy.

Managers very unhelpful.

Pay and staff discount are the only good things.

Don't do it! Is my advice - I'm about to hand in my notice.

Research the company, they'll almost definitely ask you about it. Go on their website etc.

Also in refence to the other post - a lot of people don't like it at first - if you go for the job, my advice is stick it out! I tried to hand my notice in twice when I started - my manager kept scaring me into staying haha! I'm so glad she did now. And a lot of the other girls told me they were the same when they started. I know all stores are different obviously, but every female clothes shop is bitchy to work in, girls will be girls :p:

Ive always wanted to work in my local H&M but they never dish out any part time jobs

When I applied to my local store (London) they required 6 months retail experience just for a cashier.

Apply for the job before you start deciding whether you'll take the offer... I remember when I was at school/college, H&M was like the Holy Grail of part-time jobs, because they were hard to get... but the only girl I knew to work there quit for the same reasons Adzha did.

I'm not surprised if it's one of the many H&M stores in central London, particularly in the West End. Lots of tourists are there every day and I suppose you'd have to be able to know what you're doing to keep up.

I have plenty of friends at school always asking if they have vacancies. I don't know if I could stand one of them taking my job.

One of them applied for an xmas temp job and didn't get it, and she was gobsmacked.

3 months fashion experience was in the job advert I went for - which I didn't have.

If I couldn't get in to H&M, where else is nice/good to work similar to H&M?
I have a years retail experience, just not in fashion.

Everyone I know who has worked for Primark couldn't stand it - perhaps try Debenhams or M&S?

I agree, a lot of people seem to like Debenhams & M&S actually! Accessorize is good pay and get something ridiculous like 75% staff discount :O And New Look get 50% discount .. ohhh, the shoes  haha

Not that I know of.

Base on my own experience, NO (I worked @ H&M for a year as a part time )
So far as I know, there should be no written test, but you may required to participle a game-like section for the selection. However, it really depends on stores, some stores may only ask you to sit for a normal interview(face-to-face talk only, sometime like a chatting)
GD LUCK!
