I'm thinking of applying for a job at H&M part time, progressing to full time as I'll be on a gap year. I was just wondering if anybody had any experiences of working with/for them? What is the pay like for an 18+ year old and what are they generally like to work for i.e benfits and generally? Thankyou!

I worked there for 5 years p/t and f/t whilst at college and uni. I worked between the Brighton (home) and Birmingham (uni) store. I absolutely loved it. Great staff discount and at the time super pay for retail. All H&Ms are mega busy so it's hard graft but good fun. I had a fab social life in both stores i.e after work socials - made some lovely friends.
They're really good at internally progressing people too. My friend started with me and 10 years on she is now in Head Office in Sweden - very cool!

Good luck with your application

I was wondering what H&M's background check consists of exactly. I only ask because I don't have the greatest credit :/ (that's what I get for being young and dumb)and don't want that being what keeps me from possibly getting a job there. I have no criminal background or anything of that sort. If anyone can help me that'd be awesome. Thanks.

I've worked for them for about 18 months and there is no credit check what so ever. Mine isn't the greatest after getting a credit card and using wonga at uni (bad mistake).... but no, don't worry, so check of this sort. good luck in your application :colondollar:

there's four boys that work at mine and only one of them is gay :colone: and the majority of men I have served (which is a LOT in my time) are not actually gay. Like it would matter if they were

I've been there 4 months and HATE it.

Most of the staff are backstabbers and very bitchy.

Managers very unhelpful.

Pay and staff discount are the only good things.

Don't do it! Is my advice - I'm about to hand in my notice.

I knew someone who did a lot of retail work, she never said much about high street stores but big department stores like John Lewis she said were bitchy as hell.

Thanks for your response I appreciate it.

And mid for what it's worth, in case others might wonder too, I talked to a H&M district manager today and she said they do background checks but they don't inquire regarding credit history at all. Made me feel better lol.

I was just wondering how long did it take them to contact you after a phone interview? I had mine last week monday and after the interview she said we will contact you within 2 weeks if you are successful but surely If i was successful I would have been contacted by now? I thought the interview went really well and I have alot of fashion retail experience. I haven't been rejected either because on the website it still says "accepting job positions" and my applications still active. Thanks for any help
