I need a poem for a friend's wedding and I don't know where to look. Has to be easy to read aloud so nothing that is too old fashioned as it may not come across as easy to hear.
Open to all suggestions, so post away, old or new, full versions or excerpts.
I only wrote one poem for my friends gay wedding and they loved it however it would be too personal to quote.
How about?
Through the years and tears, happiness and joy, Iv never seen a happeir couple than __ and __ They are the penultimate couple you adore for their warmth, hilarity, romantacism and l'amour. Im honoured to be your friend and be here to see your special day For you's to accept each other in the most loving way the giving of rings, the happy ever after which i know will truly last So i give you my congratulations, a cheers and the Wedding will be a blast. Congratulations and All my Love _________________
Like someone else has already suggested above, I love 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 i.e. 'Love is patient, love is kind..' etc. I also love the quote used in Sex and the city, 'ever thy, ever mine; ever ours' - it isn't exactly a poem, but it's still beautiful.
If it can be jokey then: (this is actually a song) We’ve got years ahead of us We’ve got people who care for us We’ve got Sunday morning coffees in the sun We’ve got Monday night television
We’ve got years of happiness We’ve got decades of laughter ahead of us We’ve got Christmases with family by the sea We’ve got wine and vintage cheddar
Yeah, I have everything a man could ever want And all I’ll ever need is you
Nothing can stop us now Only the good times left Nothing can stop our love Except terminal illness Or sudden accidental death
Just change the "us" to "you" or whatever and you're away
His hello was the end of her endings Her laugh was their first step down the aisle His hand would be hers to hold forever His forever was as simple as her smile He said she was what was missing She said instantly she knew She was a question to be answered And his answer was "I do"
Carrie Bradshaw haha. But you have to be fighting tears at the end for the full effect x
I think "The Art of Marriage" is a lovely reading.
A good marriage must be created. In the marriage the little things are the big things. It is never being too old to hold hands. It is remembering to say 'I love you' at least once a day. It is never going to sleep angry. It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives. It is standing together and facing the world..... It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family. It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways. It is having the capacity to forgive and forget. It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow. It is a common search for the good and the beautiful. It is not only marrying the right person. It is being the right partner.
No new yearss day To celebrate No chocolate covered candy hearts to give away No first of spring No song to sing In fact heres just another ordinary day No april rain No flowers bloom No wedding saturday within the month of june But what it is Is something true Made up of these three words that I must say to you
I just called to say I love you I just called to say how much I care I just called to say I love you And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

ohhh i love this. so much better than the initial 'love is like a fuzzy glove'
I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart) I am never without it (anywhere I go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling)
I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you
Here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
