defeats the objective of this thread ....get out....

Fine. I'm grumpy because River's happy (not that I begrudge him that) and I'm not.

Edit: oh, he's had one of his turns. I'm grumpy because River is thinking of dentists.

Woo! I've inspired myself to listen to some Pink Floyd. This will get rid of my grumpyness. Night night

If I were you I would change to the unrelated module: having a proper 5-day week is far more important for the rest of your work. You can, I'm sure, try to take it lightly and enjoy it, despite the irrelevancy. How much work would it really require?

It's not so much the workload, it's more the fact that I only have one optional module that -isn't- research, and I was hoping to do something related to my own research that interests me. The other modules are all either IR/globalization or political philosophy, both of which I hate and abandoned as soon as I could as an undergrad. I agree with you though, if I have to do one I will, but it will mean my one sanity-inducing module disappearing.

Wooooooooooooooooooooooo. Go new GOGsoc!!
I failed by posting in the old one just now. OH WELL.

The other day I got up at 2am and got ready for work and made my breakfast and everything, and was about to sit down with my cuppa thn I realised it really *wasn't* time to go to work yet, so I went back to bed.

I lose at everything.

Isn't there some way to bring your research into a political philosophy module if you take eveything to a sufficently abstract level? Anyway, more free time = better for sanity in the longrun.

Not especially if my undergrad is anything to go by; I already do political theory/analysis (which is what you're thinking of, I suspect - ontology, epistemology, analytic concepts, the state, society, etc). Political philosophy is normally taught as a history of theorists - Rawls, Nozick, etc; and so the assignments are normally 'explain x. point of y.'s schema' which you can't really relate to anything else (I have tried!). The other module I could potentially do is - wait for it - method in political philosophy/theory. Arrrrrrrrrggggghhh!

Well at least that sounds like trivial paraphrasing, so can't take up too much intellecutal effort, even if it is dull. Have you already covered everyone in the module then?

"Method"... hmm. That sounds shoehornable, no?

This is true - unfortunately it was the module I most detested as an undergraduate (or rather, the four compulsory modules I most detested) so the thought of doing it again isn't filling me with joy. It would at least be little work and an easier timetable, so that might be an option once I can get hold of the secretaries on the first day of term! And yes, it is shoehornable undoubtedly but I was quite looking forward to doing one module I might enjoy next term as opposed to yet more methods! (since all my other 5 modules are methodology, as is the dissertation). I don't think there's any way around this, though; so I suspect I will have to take the easy timetable option and just suck it up. Although I seriously think that by next September I will have lost the will to live.

I'm sorry, that was me, I assumed the thread would explode if it went over a thousand :o:. I didn't count on lots of silly mods coming in and making it not explode :p:
