Life as a Student Radiographer (Blog)

Hi guys n girls

I'm currently in my second term at London's SouthBank University studying for a BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography, and have been keeping a blog of my progess to date.

I hope the blog will be of some interest to those that are considering studying Radiography at Uni.

The blog is called The Student Radiographer, and can be found here: http://thestudentradiographer.blogspot.com/

gosh your course is SO different to mine its unbelieveable. Wonder if thats because i am in scotland and we do things differently. Man if i had had to have done that legislature paper in my first year i would have run screaming lol, yes we had to learn it but we only got tested on 1 part of it in our exam. would never have been able to learn them all . and to have anatomy and positioning put together in the same module is insane! we have them split here and still i find there is so much to learn for each, anatomy especially.
Hope the exams went well

I read some of this blog and found it all so fascinating and interesting and it seems to me anyway that once you become a student radiographer there is a lot of intensive work ahead.I am just hoping i manage to secure a place through UCAS Extra next month.

Thank you, interesting to read. I was thinking of doing a blog , but that was last year before i became a student radiographer, It would be nice to do but it's hard to find the time I'm so busy. like MalibuLucy said, your course sounds very different to mine, even though I'm not in Scotland like her, so it's interesting to see how things could be done elsewhere, esp as i did consider putting London south bank as a choice too

yes the do ask you to spend some time in a radiolgy Dept. Have you applied for this september? I've been offered a place. When they send you a interview invite they also send a clinical visit form.

Just seen you are from Gloucester, I live in peterborough but most of family live in Gloucester and stroud

Yea the hospital said this: 'Due to the confidential nature of our work at Gloucestershire Hospitals
Trust, we are not able to offer work shadowing opportunities in
Diagnostic Radiography.'
:frown:
Yea i applied for this september but through UCAS Extra because i changed my course choice from Dental Hygiene to Diag Radiography. But also i dont know how to send a new personal statement cuz it wont let me edit my personal statement on UCAS.

What do i do? What is the clinical visit form??

Oh cool...the area of gloucester i live in is part of stroud council. Do they happen to live in Hardwicke?

Hi!
Decided to make City my Firm and South Bank my Insurance.
Not sure you can change your personal statement.
Can't believe you can't visit the department especially when they have Radiography students at their hospitals. makes no sense. If I were you I would contact LSBU and find out if they need you to attend a visit and then explain your situation.

To be honest, not exactly sure where my cousins live in Gloucester. I have more contact with my family in Stroud.

ah ok thank you very much for your help.

Btw can i just ask, what are the grade requirements for this course at London South Bank uni because on UCAS it says they need 180 points. Seems a bit low in my opinion

180 is correct. It is low but then south bank like to give everyone a chance and encourage people from different educational backgrounds. Doesn't mean the course isn't good though.

Do you mean to meet entry requirements? If so it depends on the University you apply to. Some are happy as long as you have some science in a level 3 qualification ie Biology. Others will specify that you need physics. The grades/points they ask for also varies. You will probably need at least a C or in GCSE maths or equivalent
Best thing to do is to check out places you're interested in and see what they ask for.
Helo guysM a 4rd radiography students n need help in research,,,is there any1 who has done research on communication between radiographer and students??
