Hi,

How far out do students live in 2nd year? Do students choose to live in private accommodation in zone 4 to save money, or do students tend to go for zone 1 and walk?

Thanks

I'll be going int my 2nd year this September.. I was in Wolfson House but have managed to find a 6 bed maisonette with my friends a 10 minute walk from Wolfson, so it's still zone 1. It's going to be costing £115 ish a week plus bills.
We viewed other houses in zone 2 & 3, they did work out a little bit cheaper, but then we would have needed to buy a travel card costing £700 per year, so we decided to live central and pay extra for rent.
Hope that helps!

Edit: the further out you go in zones you will find nicer more "proper" houses.. our maisonette is ex council and isn't the nicest looking of places, but that's what you can expect for central!

Hey everyone,

I'll be starting my 3rd year of dentistry at KCL (Guy's Campus) this fall.

I'm still looking for a place to live though... so if anyone has a room to let or would like to buddy up, please send me a message

Cheers,
Sameer

I thought I would share what I have just found out about the KCL accommodation policy, hoping that it might help some of you.

I quote the email I got in response to my question.

"You can make changes until we begin the process of allocating rooms to
people. As such, it would be preferable if you could make your changes
before next Monday the 15th of August, as the application system will be
taken offline at some point next week. You can either make the changes
yourself on the online application system, or we can do it for you if you
provide us with a list of your new preferences as soon as possible.

Here is a brief tutorial on how to make the changes on the online
application system; sign in to the system, click on the 'Application' link
on the left hand side of the page, and then click on the 'Room / Plan
Preferences' link. From here you must select '2011 Entry New Undergraduates'
from the drop down menu, and then click on the underlined number next to one
of your hall choices. You can then edit the ranking of this hall choice.
Repeat this with the different halls until you have a list of choices you
are happy with.

Editing the rankings of your hall preferences now will not disadvantage you
when it comes to how we considery our application, and you will remain an
"on time" applicant."

I'm not sure if you use the same thing, I remember that I got given a different password/username/reference number for it? But on the myapplication thing it says this:
Undergraduate applicants
myApplication is not available to undergraduate applicants until 12pm on Thursday 18th August due to preparation for the release of A-level results. During this time please refer to UCAS track for information about the progress of your application.

You should just read my post on the very same page of this thread and you'll figure out the answer:rolleyes:

But you have different log in details which you may find in the accommodation section of myapplication, i think. But that's also closed down right now.

[help: the accommodation site is closed down]

Wolfson...

My room...

View out of my window! (though you won't get a view like this if you're on lower floors of course)

OMG where did you get that blanket on your chair from?

Does anyone know roughly the deadline for acceptance of accomodation offers?

Reply 1591

Our offers a few weeks ago had a deadline of a week.

Hi guys, my offer just changed to unconditional, so I didn't get an offer to accommodation (yet, I hope). But I must book my flight to London. When you accepted your offers, did they ask you to move in on a specific date or something, or you can move in whenever you want?
My enrollment starts on 19th September, so I wanted to book my flight to 15th or 16th.

Congrats. You can move in at any time b 4 the start of ur course once you inform the Accommodation Staff at ur Residence. However, for King's Residences, you can move in from the 17th September. If you want to move in b 4 this, you have to inform them and you will have to pay for the additional nights since ur tenancy agreement begins on the 17th.
I dont know for IC Halls though.
So, do you prefer King's Residences or IC Halls or you just want accommodation regardless...
I believe results are out tomorrow so you shld be in the next round of allocations (PG & UG) which is in a few days.
Good luck.

daisy taylor, thanks a lot! Your answer was very, very helpful!
Well, I've chosen KCH first , because my MSc is at IoP. But the other choices were KCL residences and IC Halls, both. I chose the halls by the order of best price and distance from the IoP.

Reply 1595

Hey, Im at KCH. It was my 3rd choice, The Rectory was my 1st but Im glad. Sometimes things work out for the better even though the outcome wasnt what I initially wanted (still have a commute to Strand:eek). I must say, I havent met anyone else who was allocated KCH as yet, so I hope you get ur preference.

Reply 1596

I hope that too! I'll let you know (:
What course are you going to do?

Reply 1597

have anybody received accommodation offers because i just assumed we would get them after the results came out :s
