Ok Ive thought about it now: a light year is the distance travelled by light in a year. If it is more than 6000 light years away then this implies that it has been travelling for more than 6000 years.

But some monk read the Bible and worked out that according to it, the world was created in around 4000BC, which is 6000 years ago.
