Doctors

Is anyone else too scared to go to the doctor?

I just don't like it and I always find them most unhelpful and patronising.I went a few months ago with breathing problems and he just told me to go home and stop panicking!

And a few years ago I took an overdose and it's on my medical notes and one doctor made a comment about it,which I did not need to hear, and I don't want others to.

I would quite like to see a doctor at the moment too as I'm feeling quite depressed and unwell..but I'm just scared they are going to laugh in my face and say there is nothing wrong with me and send me home,as per usual.

Anyone else feel like this?

Maybe go to a different doctor? Mine are generally really nice to me, but occasionally I've met a horrible one. Ask for someone new, and go see them, I think you should.
Hmm maybe.Except I live in a small village..I always see a different doctor every time I go to the surgery but they are all unhelpful!

I guess I could go to another surgery but it's quite far away.
You could ask if one of the doctors at your surgery specialises in that sort of thing. Like the doctor I see when I go about my skin works at a dermatology unit a couple of days a week.
That's the thing I don't like any of the doctors!Haha..I see a different one each time and they are all gits!

Nurses aren't much better, one laughed at my needle phobia when I cried when I had to have a typhoid injection then told me to "stop being so stupid."*rolls eyes*

I could ask if there is a specialist...hmm.

*scared*

Haven't been to the doctors for aggges.

A specialist? For what?
Im sorry to point it out, but all doctors will be suss when they see previous overdose on the med form. its a red flag of poss psych problems. the trick is to not show it. obviously your docs are very bad poker players

I would go and demand to be reffered to a specialist at your nearest hospital

My doctor is amazing. She is so nice and friendly and always asks after my mum and dog. Also if you need an appointment that day theay always try and squeeze you in, very different to by boys docs who are really bad.
I am too scared to go to my doctors but I think I shall be changing doctors anyway although that will just be complicated.

I never really went to see doctors but I have had huge health problems in the last 2 years and my doctor didn't really have much of an idea about my condition (but thats ok because I have my other doctor my nuerologist) but I was feeling really ill and getting weird pains so I went to my doctors and thought I would feel ok about seeing a supposedly nice young female doctor. I was very wrong, she read my notes and probably didnt have a clue, made me feel like I was making up all my pains (I was pretty anxious and a bit of a mess having just suffered serious illness) and tried to give me anti depressants and refered me to a phsychologist which was not fun...I am not sure if that is on my medical records now. Anyone know if it is?

So now I am pretty reluctant to see any doctors (that aren't my hospital ones but obviously you cant see them about general things) so I think I might need to find a new surgery. the other week I went to the nurse at the surgery for an injection and when I asked her a question about it she made some comment that made me feel really awful...

Meh I would say that I hate doctors but I wont as they are brilliant and I actually do like my brain doctor as I call him...but I am fed up of GPs...

Fah, rubbish if ever i heard it.
GPs vary person to person like any kind of service.
And your doc may well know you now, but heres a little eye opener. Sometimes we put stuff on the notes like 'has a parrot, has 3 kids etc' and then when we say 'how are the kids/hows the cat/budgies etc etc' it makes us seem like we personally know/remember the patient.

My uncle's a consultant and always writes in the notes where each patient is going for their hols. It's a really personal touch and helps the patient feel at ease when questioned about their holiday at the start of a consultation.

mmm exactly. my explanation made it sound so much more sinister...lol
yeah since I was wrongly diagnosed with herpes by my GP I've hated going. I know he's only doing his job, but even talking to him about being sexually active (I'm on the pill; last time I was there he prescribed me antibiotics and offered me some condoms at least three times) makes me cringe.

I have to go to the doctor on Thursday and I'm absolutely dreading it.

I probably have more faith in the health service than you do. I hear it deteriorates with service.

You know - it's SO upsetting when you don't like your own doctor. It's a really sad situation.

the doctor they keep palming me off onto in the surgery is a man who I feel is laughing inside when I talk to him.

I know what you mean, i have seen one female doc like that and was a bit unnerved by it...she seemed like a little hitler...its the antithesis of what a doc should be, but some of them are smug *****, who give off the aura"i'm helping all these people with problems and i have none" Most of mine have been helpful and likable for me, but i have witnessed a couple of tossers at my uni practice, being grossly rude to patients, i thought, that person might be bloody suicidal! they might have cancer! and they come in a surgery and get that! was gonna file a complaint, but i thought, whats the point. But i thought, what unprofessional *****, it don't cost much to be polite...rant over
I dont like doctors or dentists! They have both LIED to ME!
I had an ingrown toenail, I was about to get it fixed up, but then I moved to Adelaide. Then I had to go back to the doctor and say 'can i get this fixed up, i was going to have it fixed today, but Sydney is 1000km away' Then she put me on MORE tablets, after I had been taking them for ages already!
I went to the dentist. He goes 'Your teeth are perfect'. The next time I went there I had to have a filling. I said 'how much longer is it going to be?' 'Only 10 minutes' the dentist repiled. i was there for at least 40 minutes more! He didn't put enough of that medicine stuff to stop the pain in my gum, so when he was drilling my teeth, i could feel everything. I was nearly crying!
I hate doctors and dentists, They only want to get my money and make me worse. They don't want you to get better, or they wouldn't make any money.

Awwww, bugger. Sorry and all that :frown: You still make the usual fair points though, if somewhat bitingly.

I think that the doctor-patient relationship is a reciprocal thing, yes, I know some doctors are rude, but if patients go in being demanding and/or aggressive (not that I'm saying you are, at all) then it doesn't help matters. I feel really sorry for people who've had bad experiences, I really like all the GPs at my local surgery - the one at home that is; I've only been to my Cambridge one once, although they were ok too.
