Now, I had all that was required for the diagram, which you put before your spoiler, but I was unsure with the resolving and how to go about it! (So I opened the spoiler, but I had tried earlier, to no avail!)
Now, I reckon I get it, well I understand the calculations, and I think I understand why you do them. I'll have a look over again, but I see what you're doing there. And then, I'll try and get an answer for b) and ask you!

No definitely not, because as you say, they give the standard pythag triangle in the question in relation to tan, so write them as fractions multiplied by alpha, made it even easier in fact!

Ghosh, I've confused myself on b) also.

I've drawn a rather peachy little diagram, but to resolve vertically, would I end up doing something like

R= W + T cos alpha

?

Or is that wrong?
