I hate living in England-the weathers always ***** and I feel like I've always wanted to move to the US. At 17/18 this isn't really feasible and university there would be waaayy too expensive. I may try and do a postgrad there but my question is; what is the point of going through uni and making lots of friends if I'm just going to leave these friends and travel half-way across the globe. Also how easy is it to make friends after university??

As has been suggested Camp America is a great opportunity and many people do it. one of my firneds at uni did it last year and hs convinced 3 more of them to do it this year!

after finishing uni its easy to make friends, you start working and get to know people, you get involved in various activities and meet people, you then find a partner get to know their friends and it spreads from there. so whatever happens you'll always be able to make friends and you can experience the USA at any point in your life.

though if you are prepared to wait about 20 year we'll be getting tropical climates due to global warming!

But thanks for the suggestion anyway
Especially daniel_williams, you've made me see that life may not be so bleak after 21 (in the US) !

No we won't, it'll get colder 'cause the rise in sea level will dilute the gulf stream.

(sorry OP, that probably won't make you feel better!.. But once you get to uni i'm sure things will probably look up a bit - new perspective on life etc..)

Forget about it until you graduate.
Immigrating to the US is notoriously difficult for Britons and citizens of other developed European nations. We aren't eligible for the green card lottery, so getting a green card without any work experience or real qualifications is next to impossible. The US has a policy that denies you entry if there is a US citizen who can do the same job as you. If you only have A-Levels, what're they gonna want from you?

One of the easiest ways to become a US citizen is to join the armed forces. You can be immediately sworn in as a US citizen once you are a serving soldier. The only problem is that this requires a green card!

Camp America is a good idea. Make sure you actually like the US before you emigrate, huh?
