Has anyone here ever gotten a microdermal piercing?

As the thread title says, has anyone here ever gotten a microdermal piercing? I want to get four microdermals on my hips to give the illusion of two surface piercings. Basically I am hoping that some of you on here have/had microdermals because I have a few questions.

Where on your body did you get it done?

How long did the procedure take?

I have a low pain threshold so, I was wondering, how would you compare the pain of a microdermal to, say, a helix piercing?

What was the healing time of the microdermal?

Are they truthfully less likely to reject than surface piercings?

Has your microdermal ever gotten pulled out of your skin? (I’ve seen some unpleasant photos of that.)

Did you have any problems with your microdermal at all?

How long did the procedure take? Less than 5 minutes

I have a low pain threshold so, I was wondering, how would you compare the pain of a microdermal to, say, a helix piercing? A lot worse, they're punching out a hole in your skin and putting the jewellery under it, so it's going to hurt

What was the healing time of the microdermal? I'm not 100% sure, depends on the location and how well it anchors in/the flesh heals around it, but i'd say a couple of months?

Has your microdermal ever gotten pulled out of your skin? (I’ve seen some unpleasant photos of that.) No

Did you have any problems with your microdermal at all? Yep, it's not sitting perfectly flat anymore

My friend has two, one on each boob lol.
If you are wanting to create the look of two surface piercings, you would spend less and experience less pain getting two surface piercings. Plus if you ever want to remove them you can without "surgery". They have to slice your skin and you get an awful scar. Just my opinion, I know my mate doesn't recommend them because of the pain.

You don't need surgery to remove them! I know loads of people who've had them removed for various reasons, usually a bit of ermm.. ''rough massaging'' does the trick and then they can be pulled straight out. The scar they leave is small, the same size as the entry hole made by the dermal punch. Much better to look at than the scars a rejecting surface piercing will make.

You're from Bradford? Who told you that then? :p:

Shame. I experienced a lot of pain with my helix piercing so if it hurts a lot more, that won't be much fun. Then again, I got two done at the same time on the same ear so that might possibly explain the intensity :p:.

As far as it not sitting perfectly flat, is it just slightly raised or is it completely tilted from the way it should sit? Can you explain how it is now? And, did it just naturally start doing that or did the microdermal get caught on something and lift?

I've seen someone with a really strange weird almost tear drop shaped scar from having to cut the skin to remove it. Although, like you said "rough massaging" got someone elses out but theirs was a newish one so hadn't fully healed.
My friends scar from a rejected surface is two really faded pink marks thats all.
Guess it depends on the person tbh

Well, when i had it first done it was perfectly flat, at the right depth so you couldnt see any space between the jewellery and my chest. Now its sort of, raised? It was tilting to one side at one point but i've been sticking it down with some micro pore tape at a bit of bandage at night to try and make it stay level, cause i'm pretty sure its the wierd positions i sleep in that are irritating it. It seems to be working.

This is my write up of when i had it done (including some not-so-great photos)

Shame it doesn't lay flat anymore. It looks really good! When it tilts - as a result of you moving while you sleep - does it hurt? I mean this after it has fully healed, of course.

Sorry for all the questions. I just want to get as much information as I can about microdermals because I don't want to regret it despite really wanting them.

Did you really only pay £30 for it?! That is amazing. Here - I live in Canada, by the way - it costs about $120 per microdermal. That would be about £60. It's ridiculous. My piercer is giving me two for the price of one though so I'm lucky. If I had to pay in full, I'd never even consider microdermals.

Yep £30. It doesn't hurt at all. I don't get what you mean by when its fully healed though? I only had it done on saturday and it's my first one  so i can't really comment on that. But like... Y'know when you had your helix pierced, it'd throb for a few hours/days even after? I never got that with my microdermal  it hurt getting it done but once the jewellery was in the aching went off after about 10 mintues and has been fine since.

Wow, that is incredible. If I wasn't getting 2 microdermals free, I'd probably wait til I got to the UK to get it done.

As for it being fully healed, I'm sorry about that. I'm on my iPod right now so I haven't bothered looking at the date on your post. Forgive me, lol :p:.

Ha! My helix throbbed for weeks! It was awful, lol. It's good to hear that the pain subsides quickly though and doesn't hurt with movement aftewards.

Thanks so much for your help! I think I'm going to get it done. Can't wait.

Or look on Bmezine.com

I used to be on BJS. Like a good 4 years ago. It was terrible. There used to be this patronising **** called Chumley who seemed to do nothing but say pervy things.

Haha, yeah that sounds about right tbh. We're a bit better now, but there's still loads of arguements and stuff. But there's tons of great advice and enough people willing to help to balance out all the people that'll bite your head off for minor things.

I've been considering getting one for a while, but I can never seem to find any places that do them. It's been quite a while since I've looked into it though... might give it another go
This thread is useful, thanks.

I had it done on my wrist... I don't remember how long it took, probably about 15 minutes? I haven't had a helix piercing but had my nose, belly, and two tattoos. It was the worst out of all of them. Not for the initial pain, but the months of pain afterwards! It took about 3 months before I changed the top. However my skin heals really quickly so I don't know if it would be the same for everyone. It hasn't got pulled out but come close! And when it gets caught on things like fishnets, it's not fun! Also, any banging can make it swell a lot! I've had mornings when i've woken up and it's been all pussy and red and not cool, even now - a year later, it causes me some problems!

Hope that's been some help!

I can't believe you'de pay that much to get them done? :eek3:
Where I get them done ther only $45.00 and $25 for an added one..
Plus I know the peircer personally so I get even more of a discount.

And I had a friend get them and she has a low pain tolerance. Then she had them taken out.... So it obviously can't hurt that much?

On my chest.

How long did the procedure take?
About Three Minutes.

I have a low pain threshold so, I was wondering, how would you compare the pain of a microdermal to, say, a helix piercing?
Compared to my helix piercing, the microdermal hurts less in general, but piercings are over in a few seconds, unlike microdermals. Although they are relitavely quick, compared to piercings they take longer and are more fiddely, so although they hurt less, you're much more aware of the pain because of the fact it takes longer to do. However, the healing is a much smoother process compared to a piercing and hurts much less than trying to heal a helix.

What was the healing time of the microdermal?
They take about 2 months to fully heal (give or take a few weeks). But they feel like they've healed after having it for about 3 weeks.

Are they truthfully less likely to reject than surface piercings?
Yes. Surface piercings almost ALWAYS reject. And that is a known fact as that is just the nature of the piercing. Microdermals are designed to be permanant and only reject on certain people (for whatever reason).

Has your microdermal ever gotten pulled out of your skin? (I’ve seen some unpleasant photos of that.)
No. Although I know it can happen. But it can also happen with piercings and anything like that just as easily. It's also very hard to do (especially when after it has healed). As long as you're careful and it's not in a ridiculous place (like your hand) which is always in use then it will be fine. Make sure for a few weeks after your piercing you can wear loose fitting clothes as much as possible. Or you can ask the piercer if there is anything you can protect it with at night.

Did you have any problems with your microdermal at all?
No. My only problem with it is that it is permanant and requires an extensive surgical method to take out usually. I was aware of this before I got it done though so it's my choice and i'm not planning on taking it out anyway.

They definitely don't require an 'extensive surgical method' to remove! It can be done easily. Often just by massaging, but sometimes with the help of a needle or scalpel. It's rarely difficult/extensive though (although mine took ages to remove, but were veryvery irritated and scarred and my piercer was being as careful as she could).

And they reject quite a bit, too, tbh. Not as often as surface piercings do (but, slightly on a tangent, IMO the high rejection rate of surface piercings is partly down to incompetent piercers doing them on anyone & everyone, often with terrible jewellery, regardless of how suitable the placement is, how the persons lifestyle may affect the piercing, etc etc).

Like Kate said, it doesn't 'an extensive surgical method' to remove it. I took my own out using two blade needles, and it took me less than 5 minutes to do.

I wrote up a little diary (with pictures of course!) of it on another forum I post on.

Where on your body did you get it done? nape (back of my neck)

How long did the procedure take?
10 mins the first time...then I had it taken out about 4 weeks later because I thought it was too low and repierced higher...so about 20 mins the second time. Got them both done in Selfridges, London.

I have a low pain threshold so, I was wondering, how would you compare the pain of a microdermal to, say, a helix piercing? never had a helix piercing but out of my piercings (various ears/cartilage/nose/stomach) this hurt the least, bar maybe my ear lobes. Getting it taken out was painless - FYI I have absolutely minimal scarring (people can't see it) but mine was removed after only 4 weeks. Having it repierced stung a little more as the area had been somewhat traumatised from the removal, but I'd get it done any day above other piercings.

What was the healing time of the microdermal? Apparently the top part heals after a month ish, but the anchor underneath understandably takes much longer. It's been a good two months now and the rare times that I do catch it it doesn't hurt at all, so I think it's pretty well healed.

Are they truthfully less likely to reject than surface piercings? surface piercings reject about 80% of the time. Plus they look redder, are more likely to get infected etc. Microdermals ftw.

Has your microdermal ever gotten pulled out of your skin? (I’ve seen some unpleasant photos of that.) No - I think I've caught it once maybe, didn't hurt. Somewhat surprisingly my hair doesnt aggravate it or get caught on it either.

Where on your body did you get it done? Wrist.

How long did the procedure take? aproximatley 5 mins, probably less.

I have a low pain threshold so, I was wondering, how would you compare the pain of a microdermal to, say, a helix piercing? they dont hurt at all.. i found piercings of my ears more painfull than this. the first 2 seconds is painfull the rest is fine.

What was the healing time of the microdermal? ive had mine in now for 3 months, its totally fine!! going to have another one soon

Are they truthfully less likely to reject than surface piercings? yes! i think so. I was worried at first, but everything seems to be going well.. just keep it clean!

Has your microdermal ever gotten pulled out of your skin? (I’ve seen some unpleasant photos of that.) NO! i hope it never does  i doubt it will really, i pulled it once but nothing happened

Did you have any problems with your microdermal at all? none what so ever. the only issue was that it was bleeding for days! but ever since its been fine, i had a small bit of puss from it once!
